Brillant!,give your kids money to buy a flag put it up and support your country, be proud of being English!!!

Don't misunderstand me, I am all for supporting England in the World Cup and allowing kids to be involved but.....wouldn't I as a parent run the risk of being fined if I took my child out of school for a break during term time? I appreciate this match is for 1 1/2 hours rather than five days but the principle is set already.

If exams are meant to be run at the same time around the country to prevent 'cheating' how can the GCSE time be changed? Again I realise this change is only by a short period, and before anyone points out that there would be insufficient cross over to allow anyone to cheat, again isn't the rule already in place? I am happy to be corrected if there is some in built flexibilty!

I don't mean to be a kill-joy I'm just not entirely convinced that this match is as important as some others might suggest. With luck we will go further in the World Cup and more important matches will follow!

I do actually enjoy watching the World Cup so I am not a Footiephobe! But I can assure you I won't be able to take time off from work to see matches....the NHS doesn't work like that, no matter how patriotic we all are!

For those parents who didn't get the e-mail or letter from Bohunt,

We will run the normal six lesson day on slightly amended timings; there will be a shortened tutor period and a reduced lunch break. Accordingly, students should bring all the books and equipment required for a normal Wednesday.

Students have had an extra 30 minutes of lessons on Friday 28 May and this will be repeated on Friday 9 July - there will be a net gain in terms of teaching time as a result of these arrangements.

Richardson Travel school buses will leave Bohunt earlier than usual in order that students are able to get home by 3pm:

• The 992, 995,997 and 998 buses will leave Bohunt at 2pm
• The 994 will leave at 1pm (students will need to show bus pass to leave the lesson)
• Students who travel on the 990 to Petersfield should instead take the 995 at 2pm
• Students living in Rake normally taking the 995 will be transported by school minibus departing Bohunt at 2pm
• There will be no late bus on this afternoon

In order to support parents’ work commitments, we will be running a supervised programme of activities for students whose parents require them to remain at school until 3.30pm. Please would you complete and return to school the slip at the bottom of this letter if you would like your son/ daughter to benefit from this provision. There will be no Richardson’s coaches running at 3.30pm and students will need to make alternative arrangements. Reply slips to be returned no later than Monday 14 June please.

Yours sincerely

Thanks Dawn, I didn't get an e-mail from school, but hopefully have corrected that situation.

An extra 30 minutes presumably incorporated into the normal school hours isn't really extra school time, but I guess that is upto the school staff.

I still feel that a large screen in the MPH at school would have encouraged the kids to participate in watching a team sport and allowed the staff to watch in school hours without Liphook once again hitting the press in a rather unecessary way! It even made it onto ITVs 'This Morning' today...not without some ridicule I might add!

LOL...the whole of Brazil closes early when they're playing in the World Cup...get your priorities right :D

Congratulations to all at Bohunt. A very good & sensible solution.
I am certain that the Head and staff will gain from the pupil respect earned.

I remember them having a large screen in the Sports Hall for the 2002 World Cup.

Sometimes it really is a drag having a 'Mail Journalist' living in the Village isn't it..........All the ridicule that has been heaped on us from the same source. I'm surprised he is still happy to live here?!

I'm sure the UK must be getting a bit fed up with Liphook - (the infamous village full of bigots and cretins) being in the National Press all the time!!

- Neil (8th Jun 2010 - 09:18:46)

Dawn do you have a personal vendetta against our local independent journalist as you like to put him down when ever you can.

I understand that some people might have issues with childminding cover but lets be honest most Bohunt kids fend for themselves I know I did at that age my parents where more than happy with me letting myself in.

Well-done Bohunt, just jealous never happened in my day :-)

Re: Bohunt to close early for England match???
- Dawn (8th Jun 2010 - 09:56:46)

No vendetta - just hate it that our village is in The Mail whenever a little bit of embarrassing news crops up. Then it is picked up by daytime TV and we get even more negative media coverage on a national basis.

I'm sure it doesn't happen every time someone 'burps too loudly - or other such nonsense' in other villages?

I must say I tend to agree with Dawn. Barely newsworthy events in Liphook hitting the headlines because we are easy copy for a journalist who lives locally.

Dawn,

In this particular case, I fail to see what on earth is 'embarrassing' about Bohunt being sensible and letting the students go home a bit earlier to support their team in the World Cup...and so what if a story by a local reporter got printed in the Daily Mail!!

I think all schools should follow their example...pride in your country is a valuable lesson for children to learn and we need much more of it IMO....

Eneida

If England were in the final maybe.....

Re: Bohunt to close early for England match???
- Dawn Hoskins (8th Jun 2010 - 13:52:22)

I can see that I am out numbered on the football front - I was more in agreement with the viewers of this Morning!

I love Rugby, tennis and other sports however.

I will make a proposal to the school to let my children have time off when there are good cricket matches on or when we are doing well in the Five Nations etc. Motor racing and events like The Grand Prix are fabulous for supporting England and being patriotic etc, but on in the middle of the night - so my proposal will obviously have to cover the 'day after' for events which are streamed live in the middle of the night.

Not forgetting there will soon be Olympics coverage during the day which my children will not want to miss out on!

Will school accept this as a valid proposal? What do you think - and why - answers on the back of a post card. . . . . .

Dawn, Liz.

Innocent until proven guilty.

Are you sure you know who actually wrote this piece or are you both just putting 2 and 2 together. If so maybe your maths is not be as good as you think.

Re: Bohunt to close early for England match???
- liz (9th Jun 2010 - 10:16:13)

Michael

Fair comment on the maths but statistically the odds were in our favour I would suggest. Who did write the article?
