Liphook Memorial
- Charles J. Smithe (23rd Nov 2004 - 13:24:16)

As a member of this great comunity I feel that we should put a stop to all of this 'anti chav' programme. I think that we should channel our thoughts and use them effectively to raise money for and build a memorial to liphook situated on the Millenium Green next to the Millenium Hall, this would not only bring a sense of wellbeing to the community it will also mean that the community has to work together. Any ideas or replies will be greatfully recieved. Thank you.T

A memorial for what exactly?

A memorial to how nice Liphook was before the Chav cars were here?

To make Chav's feel a bit more welcome. How about a memorial of a kitted up Escort with fluffy dice and a twin exhaust the size of a dusbin.

Sounds like another wind-up to me!

great idea. the chavs of lihook could probably steel one from Liverpool or something! a suggestion to any chavs who can afford the internet and see this page, or are educated enough to use a computer and the internet and not steel the computer.

on a serious note a well made remorial would go down well and show respect for all those Britih and Canadin troops throughout the wars.

good suggestion.

Thanks to Alex Smith for his not very helpful comments. Try spelling steal correctly next time.

I was more along the lines of a modern memorial structure. If anybody has seen the one in Grayshott then they will know exactly what I am talking about, I can also assure you C without meaning to cause offence this certainly is not a wind up. Any worthwhile comments greatly recieved.

"A modern memorial structure". How about an old slam door train in memory of the days that there was a half decent train service to Liphook ?

Re: Liphook Memorial
- Charles J. Smithe (24th Nov 2004 - 11:27:25)

We did once have a decent train service yes, but with all due respect Finchie, I was more talking along the lines of a modern, maybe made of steel structure.

I do need some help with getting ideas and also how to go about getting this going.

Comments welcome.

Forgive me if i am being stupid but a memorial to what?

War Memorial, Town Memorial (i know there have been a lot of changes but i wasn't aware Liphook had died) or another sort?

Re: Liphook Memorial
- Jenny (24th Nov 2004 - 14:23:11)

That sounds good - maybe speak to some of the GCSE Art students at Bohunt to come up with some ideas?

Would be great if something like this was designed by a local youngster?

Charles,
If you could contact me on 07976 398 865 I might be able to assist.
Kind regards,
Steve.

Not so much as a memorial but how about a Hall of Fame monument whereby names of those who have served the community in one way or another have their names added.
Service to the village.. Service to Sport. OBEs, Knights etc.
I could think of a few names that should be on there and i think it could be voted on in some way.

I still think this thread is a huge wind up. Look at the name - it's an Americanism, the English hardly ever use a middle initial. Are you American Charles?

But seriously, don't you think any sort of outdoor monument will just become another magnet for vandalism??

Re: Liphook Memorial
- Steve Read (2nd Dec 2004 - 22:21:30)

Offered my number for assistance or ideas, its my job and my own business working with all metals from ornamental ironwork (traditional) to modern designs.
Could have helped, was willing to help. No reply.
Lived in this village for 46 years, shouldn't be surprised.
If anyone can design a memorial to apathy let me know, will gladly make it.

Re: Liphook Memorial
- Alex Cameron (3rd Dec 2004 - 12:48:56)

Now a structure that is a celebration of apathy is an incredibly brilliant idea, and highly relevant. Maybe we could sculpt a lonely figure, cider in-hand, smoking cheap cigarrettes, looking absolutely nonchalant. Any suggestions for a title/name?

Alex,
How about a profile of loads of houses, a bloke with his head buried in the sand, surrounded by dog turds, a set of traffic lights and a train whizzing past.
Help me here I can't think of a title.

Hi Steve,

If you're looking for some traffic lights for your Liphook monument you're very welcome to borrow mine. I can also let you have not one but two posh looking tractors and a dinky little box on wheels which hums and of course as many cones as you like.

It's such fun driving in and out of our gate that my husband has a permanent smile on his face!
