A Men's Shed for Liphook?
- James (20th Jul 2016 - 15:10:06)
I wonder if anyone would like to get together to form a Liphook Men’s Shed?
Men’s sheds began in Australia and the idea has taken off in many countries. They provide company and a sense of purpose to men who find themselves with time on their hands. Generally, that means retired men though anyone can join whatever their circumstances. It’s not unknown for women to join!
This website can explain it better than I can: menssheds.org.uk
At the moment I am just taking soundings to assess the level of interest locally. Any thoughts?

If women are welcome sounds like a great dating opportunity ;-)

The nearest one to here is held at The Furniture Helpline premises in Bordon. Hampshire House, Hampshire Road GU30 0HJ. It runs on a Tuesday 1pm to 4pm. Telephone Jamie on 01420 489000 for more information.

Jackie - I suspect you have an ulterior motive but I wouldn't want to discourage you. Just bear in mind that some of these old guys may have dodgy tickers!
Jill - yes, I am aware of the Shed in Bordon but not everyone can afford a car and with limited public transport it's important that prospective members should not be excluded because of their own circumstances. I think a Liphook Men's Shed, hopefully within walking distance for most people, would be an asset to the village.

Sounds like a brilliant idea.
Just for clarity, I'm not looking for dating opportunities!!

Hi Tony,
I'm sorry I didn't see your posting earlier. It's slow progress so far but I am sure the demand is there.
I am a member of the Alton Men's Shed where I have heard that two or three people in Liphook are interested. In fact someone contacted the national body and asked to be put in touch with the chairman at Alton for advice about setting up a branch but so far they haven't made contact.
If anyone would like to find out more about Men's Sheds, come along to the Alton shed on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday mornings. Our HQ is in the car park of the Parish Hall in Queens Road, Alton (behind the Register Office). You will be very welcome.
