London to Paris Cycle Ride in aid of Cancer
- Phil McNamara (29th May 2010 - 13:47:22)
Dear all
In September, I am taking part in the ORCHID CANCER CHARITY cycle ride from London to Paris. Orchid is a cancer charity supporting men and their families in the fight against male cancers such as prostate and testicular cance - which are all too commonr. Also, as a cancer professional I do personally and impartially endorse the work and research of this charity, who don't always enjoy the same profile and support as other charities I'm afraid!! Yet prostate cancer for example can affect any man such as our own fathers, brothers and sons. My own family has been affected, as have close friends and colleagues throughout the years.
I apologise in advance for 'another' thread seeking donations in these difficult financial times, but if folk could be so kind as to support me, they can make donations through:
http://www.justgiving.com/PhilsFrenchFancy
At the moment I myself am suffering from various minor illnesses thanks to the dire weather and long training sessions, so I can assure you I will be earning every penny of monies raised!!
Thank you in advance, and best wishes.
Phil McNamara

Humbled, and thank you.

Just as a courtesy really, to let some interested folk know that the London to Paris cycling event took place over 2.5 days last week (yes, at 2.5 days it was tough and at a blisteringly high pace - even my race gloves were shredded well before Paris!!) and successfully raised approx. £25,000 for charity. Our team was honoured to be joined by a chap recovering from testicular cancer, who completed the full course and arrived at the Arc de Triumphe in the lead group to great cheers from friends and family, and many local's too (initially shocked by the sudden arrival of peleton and full support crew!).
Thanks all, for the immense support both on and off the bike.
Yes, I have signed up for the next 3 cycle events before I am asked!! London to Edinburgh over 37 hours (relay), New Forest 60, and for April 2011 a bespoke Tour de Cambodia - again, all in aid of male-specific cancer support.
Kind regards,
Phil
