Sainsburys
- C Brown (10th May 2010 - 15:12:44)

Hi all,

I've repeatedly had some issues with the Liphook Sainsburys repeatedly since moving to the area (maybe the one I used to attend was of a particularly high standard so this one just seems poor in comparison?)

I tried raising issues in store but it wasn't met with much interest, so I called Sainsburys HQ this morning and they seemed far more interested in my concerns. Please can I ask anyone else that has repeatedly found out of date produce on the shelves / unhelpful staff / discriminatory use of the so called 'company policies' / store not opening on time in the mornings please to contact customer services on 0800 636262 to register your thoughts, the more feedback they get the more chance there is things may change for the better.

On the flip side also report any good things you find about the store, positive re-inforcement works too! :-)

Ooh...now you've gone and opened up a can of worms! Let the discussion begin!!!

Dear C

Good luck with your quest - I have complained to the customer service department via e-mail and despite three e-mails replying apologising for the store manager and promising that they would get back to me they never did. In the end I gave up and just accept they have poor service, long queues at the checkouts, empty shelves and stressed staff.

Where possible I shop at Tesco at Bordon now, at least they open their tills. Unfortunately as Sainsburys is the only local supermarket I am sometimes left with the only choice to go there. Unless they have a change of manager I don't think they will improve. The only time they had all the checkouts operating and no queuea was at Christmas when everyone was doing their "Big Shop".

Hopefully they may start to listen but they are probably asking their lawyers to remove this thread as we type!

As you say, Vicki, can of worms indeed!

Just as well the Customer Services number is listed. I hope that complaints or compliments will be sent directly to Sainsbury's and not rehashed here on the site, but we'll see...

Like the shop, staff always friendly, but the toilets are a disgrace!!!.
70% of the time they are both out of order, and when their not they are foul.
I wonder how long a till is ever out of order for?

DISGUSTING!!!.

This is a local discussion forum, people share good and bad about many local businesses (hairdressers, restaurants etc) Why should people shy away from discussing the pros and cons of Sainsburys just because it is a big supermarket??

If poor practice is flagged up it gives other a chance to protect themselves from over charging (through bogof offers not being recognised at the tills etc)

I have to admit, i used to dislike Sainsburys (all of them not just ours) but i think as a chain they have made improvements.

My only gripes about ours is that the flowers are not well cared (buckets with no water etc) and they have no 'packers'

I find the staff helpful with good product knowledge.

I know in the ideal word we would all be in 'arkwrights' open all hours shop with our wicker baskets but sadly would need to be a b***dy big basket for a family of 7!!

Claire - you are right, it is open for all to express - find it hard to see why when a certain poster had issues with local small businesses (stocks in adverse snow conditions)- this site was where those opinions were placed. Wonder why she did not speak directly to those businesses but chose to do so publicly? Very strange reasoning?

Don’t use the store - so cant comment but I had thought there was a new manager? Also interested in knowing if the rumour was true that Sainsburys had to take down the flag of England on St Georges Day, because a person of different faith and homeland was offended and asked them to take them down?

Oh for heavens sake ,what is our country coming to if that piece of info is right !!!!!

Well this almost beggers belief, but it would not surprise me. If they don't like it don't live here, we have to abide by other countries rules.

Re: Sainsburys

I think Sainsbury's would like us to complain about the empty shelves - so that they could use that to apply pressure to increase storage space or frequency of deliveries. They applied for and got planning permission to increase the size of the store - they said they needed more storage - only to fill that space with non-food items which compete with local shops. - Which, I believe, they had said they would NOT do when they were given planning permission in the first place. - But apparently that was only a 'gentleman's agreement' - which says it all really!

(PS - Before anyone gets on their high horse, I'm not criticising Sainsbury's check-out staff, shelf stackers etc. Just the management.)

Re: Sainsburys
- Dawn (12th May 2010 - 09:47:17)

I use Sainsburys and Tescos depending on which I am closer to.

I find the range of foods better at Sainsburys but I have found on many occasions that items priced on the shelf as 'buy one get one free' or special offers are not priced as the special offer at the checkout.

I now check my receipt every time and try to make a mental note about which items in my trolley are special offers, but it is not easy to remember!

At Tesco, if they get it wrong they refund TWICE the difference - I wish Sainsburys did that as I would be quids in!!

I also have a problem with the toilets, for such a big store to have constantly broken loos is not good at all.

I have no problem discussing the pros and cons on here - that is what this forum is for surely?!

"...please to contact customer services on 0800 636262 to register your thoughts, the more feedback they get the more chance there is things may change for the better"

Hi folks,
my point isn't that posters shouldn't discuss a topic, however if one actually wants change do take the complaint to customer services so the feedback is recorded and hopefully addressed.
The site's a great resource with entertaining contributors but just refering back to feedback discussions around the christmas break, I personally would prefer not to see unconstructive criticism of any business, whether it's pubs under new management or the local supermarket which employs local staff. Anyway, I think Ruth says it better - here's her opening paragraph from 2007. Plus ca change...

Let the Sainsbury's issue drop please!
- Ruth Hamilton (13th Nov 2007 13:56:02)

I used to be a member of staff at Sainsbury's and every time Sainsbury's is mentioned on this website it really gets me annoyed. The staff at Sainsbury's do read this website and I may add that they are all hardworking and are trying to do their best. When Sainsbury's is constantly being knocked it gets a little teadious. The same arguments for and against a big supermarket keep reappearing. The fact is Sainsbury's is in the village for good, the village has to live with it, whether we like it or not. People will boycott establishments over personal views especially when personal views are written about so freely and so openly on websites such as this. I see that as a little silly, but other people are like that! To keep critisizing Sainsbury's is just going to annoy more people thus making customers think again about where they want to shop.

Re: Sainsburys
- liz (14th May 2010 - 08:27:20)

Sainsburys is a huge business with a market value in excess of £6bn. If they can't sort out our local store then I think any complaints are justified both on here and to their Customer Services.

Re: Sainsburys
- Sue w (14th May 2010 - 18:55:41)

I think someone is trying to make this subject far more contentious than anyone else is!. Just dont see why a comment from previous discussions back years ago is necessary? This thread is not related to that at all (if my memory is correct) and the original poster of this thread had a point about TODAYS service etc - it should be dealt with from today. The re-hashing seems to be only from one direction?

Re: Sainsburys

2 years ago my wife choked on a one inch piece of rubber from a sausage purchased from Sainsburys in Liphook, I rang their 'help-desk' who said they would investigate.
I visited the store and reported the incident to the Manager 'who said 'what do you want a free packet? to make up for it' I replied that I was more concerned that somebody else may have a more tragic reaction if the rest of what appeared to be part of a drive belt was swallowed, he shrugged and walked off I am still waiting for the result of the head office 'investigation' me-thinks perhaps that this just reflects their attitude to a captive audience.
I now buy my fresh meat from the butchers in Petersfield who do seem to care whether their customers survive eating their food.
Why do we put up with thier appalling service? because its easier to put up with it rather than looking for alternatives and until we do they will continue to abuse their position.
On the positive side I think their till staff on the whole are a happy bunch who bear the brunt of their management's apathy.
