Deer Hut Pub Hypocricy against Old Thorns
- Manda (1st May 2010 - 12:08:35)

I am fed up with all the hypocricy surrounding the intended Old Thorns developments and how everyone is feeling sorry for the pub at the bottom of the road!!!

They have the cheek to complain about the noise and extra through traffic that old thorns is bringing to the area and how the new 50 appartments are going to ruin everything... aside from all the extra jobs and improvement to the community these expansions are brining. I really fail to see their point!

How can any kind of improvment to Old Thorns be detremental to the Deers hut???? Surely if the pub had any sence they would be glad of the extra passing business that Old Thorns is brining them... that is if they were using their business heads...
Also from what i see of the deers hut.... they need to improve their parking facilities if they intend to hold events like Motor bike rallys... They seem to use their car park to hold the event (which is totally inadequate for an event of this kind) Then they seem to direct their customers to park on the driveway to old thorns which only has rights to pass and no rights for anyone (including old thorns customers) to park... and then they direct the overflow of people attending the rally to park in Old Thorns actual car park - how cheeky is that!!!! At least old thorns have recognised their need for adequate parking and built a car park to suit... but it should only be for their customers... not passing trade for the pub at the bottom of the drive.

Also if this pub had any sence they would put some kind of wall up in front to stop the countless children running in the road when they hold these events... for everyones safety and peace of mind.

Then there are people opposing any widening or improvement of the access road, when the deers hut customers actually park illegally, blocking the road, which in the event of emergency services being called would be a huge problem... not just to the hotel, but to any residents living around old thorns area that use the same access road.

The hypocricy lies with the fact that the deers hut complain continuously about Old Thorns and their new developments and all the noise and through traffic... and then go and hold the noisiest motorbike rally, block all the access roads with their customers parking, having the cheek to direct them up to old thorns to park if no where else available, increasing through traffic themselves, have kids running wrecklessly accross the road risking being run over because of so many road side parked cars on an access road that doesn't even allow road side parking. Talk about pot calling kettle black...

Personally i dont think the deers hut should be allowed to hold such rallys as they clearly do not have adequate facilities to do so!!!!

Perhaps a few improvements to their business would not go amiss as it looks very run down to me and not the type of place i would like to go... I think its about time they sharpened up their act in line with Old Thorns instead of lowering the tone of the beautiful south downs national park!!!

Sorry mis read your post..it was about the access not the sign...
How can improving the access be detremental to the Deers hut???? Surely if the pub had any sence they would be glad of the extra passing business that Old Thorns is brining them... that is if they were clever about it all...

MANDA and CLAIRE? The same person I feel who suddenly seem to have got a thing about the Deers Hut and maybe an interest in Old Thorns?

A large proportion of your argument seems to be held against the Deers Hut staging bike rallies. Surely this is only a fews days a year?

The Managers of the Deers Hut and Old Thorns can surely help each other out with parking etc with a little bit of adult dialogue???? These posts do look a little bit childish

I think the deers hut is a wonderful little country pub.The owners and customers are friendly and welcoming. It is everything an english pub should be.People in this country are quick to grumble about things they should be supporting. How many traditional pubs are left? I am assuming that Claire has never been there for a drink on a lovely summers day.As for the classic car days, they are occasional, and every business should have the opportunity to boost profits, especially in todays climate, after all that is what Old Thorns are trying to do.Personally, I think there is nothing wrong with Old Thorns wanting to expand.Likewise there is no problem with The Deers Hut hosting their events. As for children running in the road, well surely the parents are responsible for their welfare?I dont see a great wall around Sainsbury? As for the extra jobs Old Thorns will provide, i expect these will go to the numerous people who are happy to accept low wages on casual contracts (eg zero hour.zero rights)Give The Deers Hut a break.Id rather see that thrive, providing a good service with the personal touch.Old Thorns is in danger of becoming some over priced, over rated big hotel, lining the pockets of people who provide a cold, unfamiliar, and probably forgettable experience.

Claire,I suspect, is a young employee of Old Thorns, desperate to impress somebody. Do people stop Old Thorns having wedding partys, with the occasional unruly, drunken guest. Or maybe some obnoxtiously smug golfer who thinks he has the world in his hand......NO. Different venues for different people. Move on, the Deers Hut has been there far longer than its (relatively) upstart neighbour anyway!!
