Traffic Signals on the Headley Road.
- Paul Robinson (14th Apr 2010 - 09:05:58)

Is it me?

At about ten thirty a.m. yesterday BT Connect arrived to do a job at the junction of Tower Road with the Headley Road. They coned off an area of the road and erected three way traffic lights to control traffic on this busy junction.

At twelve thirty, just two hours later, they completed their task and moved off leaving the traffic lights operating from a generator. These were still there until 11.30p.m. last night and were not moved until, I think, early this morning.

The traffic congestion particularly at the early evening rush hour was horrendous with tail backs to and through the Square for at least a couple of hours. Vehicles and deliveries entering and leaving the Co-op were forced to second guess the light sequence as they could not see any of the signals. It was madness and I am very surprised there was not an accident.

Now I have no doubt that the traffic control apparatus was supplied by a different agency but surely BT Connect should have applied a little joined up thinking and got the lights removed within hour or so of completing their work.

Paul,

I was one of the openreach engineers ( bt connect?) you would have seen in Headley road, i was called in to assist the engineer already on site to restore service to some customers in Bramshott. On completion of our work, lux were informed, as were our own control in order to close the traffic notice we required to work there.

On returning home that evening from work, i was also held up in the congestion in Headley road but unlike some people, i parked in Tower road, walked back to the traffic light generator, took down their direct number and contacted my manageress who called them and was told they would send someone out to collect them as soon as possible.

I do hope this has shed some light on who was responsible for the lights being there so long!

Here we go again . . .

Midday Sunday and a complicated network of temporary traffic lights are erected in the Square and impressive tailbacks are recorded in London Road, Headley Road, Longmoor Road, Portsmouth Road, Midhurst Road and Haslemere Road.

No evidence of repairs, hole diggery or any other activity that would warrant this sort of traffic control. Thankfully someone had the good sense to switch the generator off until work commences possibly some time after the Bank Holiday.

Is it me . . .

Just come back from work up the Headley road, absolute nightmare, removal lorry causing chaos by the co-op. i wonder if the gentleman who always complains about traffic lights causing problems in the village will post about this as the removal lorry does appear to be outside his house! lol.
