South Downs National Park HQ in Liphook!
- mark (3rd Apr 2010 - 12:19:37)

I noticed today that the Petersfield Post carries an article suggesting that Petersfield 'is still in with a chance of becoming the headquaters for the South Downs National Park' and that 'the park authority is assessing which towns around the South Downs would make an ideal location for its future home'.

So why don't we campaign to bring the Park HQ to Liphook?

With the new medical centre, sports pitches etc, having been approved at Bohunt Manor, surely there is plenty of space to put the Park HQ somewhere on this land as well? A new roundabout with access to Bohunt Manor was part of these proposals, so there should not be any need for further road modifications.

Liphook is probably the true 'Gateway' to the new Park, and with the Hindhead Tunnel progressing so well, and the Railway Station within spitting distance of Bohunt Manor, this has got to be the most accessible location, especially for visitors from London.

I note on the Park's website that they are looking for 'premises that are low-cost or energy efficient or close to public transport links' Liphook is certainly close to good transport links, though the station itself, and rail service need a real revamp, and the design of an outstanding new energy efficient building could be put out to competative tender to all our local architects, Adrian Bird take note!

This is surely something that all of us could support? Such a proposal, apart from the employment it would bring in, and the knock-on benefit tourists bring to local traders, will give Liphook a real sense of identity and national prestige!

Local official organisations are backing Petersfield's bid for the HQ in that town, so why don't we get organised and do the same here? This will in some small way compensate us for the loss of the World Wildlife Fund when they sold off the Manor, and bring in a new organisation that we can all be proud of.

So come on Parish Council, you have done an excellent job securing the sports pitches and allotments for us, why don't you go back to the owners of the land and put this to them.

If we are all positive, anything is possible!

Great idea Mark!
Better than any more housing on the site, Liphook needs more business's to give a more rounded profile to the village.
