CARNIVAL QUIZ
- Karen Feeney (2nd Apr 2010 - 13:19:17)

Hello all

It is that time of year again where we start asking the good people of Liphook to support their annual Carnival!

Our first fundraiser of the year is our Quiz which is to be held on Friday 14th May at the Millennium Hall. Tickets are £10 each which will include a supper. Teams of up to 6 players.

I know many of you talkback folk showed lots of interest many months ago so here your chance to put your £10 where your mouth is and come along!!!

You can call me on 01428 723971 to book a table and later in the month we will start selling tickets through the Parish Office and Millennium Hall.

Looking forward to seeing you all there....

Putting this back to the top of the pile. Not sold one table yet.. Where are you all????

Gotta tell you, we are going to really struggle to put Carnival on this year if we don't get some more support from the folks of Liphook at our fundraising events. We have a police bill to pay this year and sponsorship is getting harder by the day. We have lost several sponsors in the last few years which as you can imagine, puts further strain on us to make money via other means.

Please, please get your teams together and give me a call.

Karen - 723971

Hi Karen

I wonder if some of the problem is the venue? The Millennium Hall has about as much atmosphere as a bus station. I know several people who might be interested in the quiz but as soon as you mention the Millenium Hall their eyes glaze over. One of the local pubs would perhaps be better, although I admit, probably not as practical.

Re: CARNIVAL QUIZ
- Helen M (15th Apr 2010 - 11:46:54)

Problem with a pub is:

1. not practical with other guests.
2. costly
3. karen wont be able to charge for alcohol where i am sure she makes a lot of money!

Karen - i'll have a table - Lindsay and i love a good quiz!!!!! x

Re: CARNIVAL QUIZ
- Karen F (15th Apr 2010 - 17:07:38)

Thank you Helen, will put you down for a team!

Liz, would like to think it is the people that make an event, not the venue and as Helen rightly says, pub really is not an option. Have you been to one of our Quiz nights before? Can assure you that we really do create a lovely atmosphere and people enjoy themselves once they get there!!

Perhaps you might like to come along and see what I mean!

Kind regards
Karen

My comments were by no means meant as a criticism Karen - just trying to suggest a possible reason for lack of response, from comments made to me. - But if we keep this post towards the top of the listings it will help publicise the event!

The 'Headley Road Head Cases' winners of last year's quiz, will take a table for six and will be defending their title.

Anyone heard from Finchie of late?

Let it be known the gauntlet is laid!

Have you ever tried organising an event to raise money? I think not with your negative reply. This is such a good cause as not only is Liphook one of the only small places that hold such a wonderful carnival but all the money raised goes to organisations in Liphook. So your reply to your friends should have been “It is not the venue it is our opportunity to support the carnival committee and to have a good night out”. I notice you still haven’t said you wanted a table. I guess it is like the parish council meetings you have a lot to say but you cannot attended the meetings and I guess you now have a good excuse not to make the quiz night because none of your friends will come. Well you are welcome to join our table or I am sure you could join anyone else’s.

As for the Millennium Hall being like a bus shelter we were the first couple to be married in the hall 8yrs ago and the hall looked wonderful as we had decorated it with candles and flowers and with the blue curtains pulled round and the chairs laid out it looked far better than any registry office and more personal and we were able to have everything under one roof.. We had 80 guest to the ceremony and meal, and about 200 people to the evening party. Everyone of our guest from near and far said what a super venue we had to be married in and they are still talking about what a wonderful time they had,. Even the registrars who came from Petersfield were very impressed.
So as Karen said it is not the venue but the people that make the event.

Irene

The answer to your first question is, yes, I have organised fund raising events and I know that all information is useful. As I put in my post to Karen it was not meant as a criticism just passing on views. I also mentioned that I realised a change of venue may not be practical.

Thanks for your comments about what I should say to my friends but we are already planning to come along. That doesn't have to be arranged through this website.

What I would like to know is how on earth do you know whether or not I have attended council meetings?

I still think the Millenium Hall looks like a bus shelter even though I have been to some good events there.

Fantastic news to hear that you and your friends are coming along to support the carnival committee now just convince the glazed eyed people you spoke to that an evening in a bus shelter might be quite fun and then hopefully it will be a sell out.
See you there

Dear All

Thanks to everyone who is coming along, we are doing well with filling the hall now but there is always room for one more team! So if you haven't got your tickets, would suggest you hurry on down to the Millennium Hall or Parish Office.

Just to advise you that we have had a change in the menu and pudding is now Chocolate Brownies with Ice Cream and Fruit! That should get a few more interested!!

See you on the 14th May.

If it's anything as good as last year it should be a good evening!! Looking forward to the brownies too. Hope anybody who is unsure takes a plunge and comes along. It is so easy just to turn up on the night for Carnival but it's events like this which provide the much needed funds to make it happen and with a recession on, sponsors are finding it harder. So come on people of Liphook come and support your CARNIVAL.

Re: CARNIVAL QUIZ
- Karen F (15th May 2010 - 08:54:22)

Huge thanks to everyone who came along and joined us last night at the Carnival Quiz. The hall was bursting with people and I am convinced that we made a record amount last night!

Thanks to the committee who worked so hard all evening, special thanks to Kath and Kevin who spent most of the last three days in Sainsbury's as the teams kept coming and the numbers kept rising, and to Jan (Gordon Ramsay) Treacher-Evans who managed not to use the F word once in Hell's Kitchen!!

Thanks to Liphook Golf Club who donated most of the delicious food that was consumed by everyone, gestures like that help us enormously and we are so grateful.

Thanks to Rob, Suzy and Heather Miller who put together a fab quiz and who are now very much part of the Carnival team!

On Carnival night you all have the right to feel that you helped ensure the Carnival happened this year, because I can assure you, without your support and turn-outs like last night, it wouldn't.

Thanks again and see you at the Walk later in the year!!

On behalf of 'Headley Road Head Cases' I would say that this year was even better than last year. Great atmosphere, good food and lashings of 'vino collapso'.

The quiz was challenging and fun.

Well done to all concerned for a great night out

So.... did the Headley Road Nut Cases win again??

Re: CARNIVAL QUIZ
- Paul Robinson (16th May 2010 - 17:32:03)

I regret that despite our very best efforts we were soundly trounced and came about fifth!

Reasons (excuses)

The crippling round on Astronomy

Too much wine

The input of Becky Wright and Co who is globe trotting and was unable to assist.
