Apple Cars at Liphook Station
- Peter Shepherd (31st Mar 2010 - 09:36:40)

After years of campaingning to get ourselves and other firms to be able to pick up at liphook station.S.W.T still insist on single occupation.
Are people satisfied with the service Apple Cars are providing or would people like to see other firms have the chance to also operate out of the station

Don't really have an opinion as when I do catch a train I tend to use Haslemere station.

Can SWT stop you being there at arrival times to pick up weary commuters?

Peter,

There is nothing at all stopping you from picking up at the station if you have a booking. Clearly the licence stops you "plying for hire" there.

As for single companies being allowed to ply for hire; that is a matter for EHDC (the licencing authority) and SWT/Stagecoach.

From a personal perspective, the practice of allowing just one company to hold a licence at a station is clearly anticompetitive and should be (if not actually is) illegal under the law.

I have only tried to use them twice - the first time they wouldn't come to Passfield (???) to collect us to take us to the station, and the second time, when it was raining heavily, the office at the station was shut and no sign of taxis anywhere. So more choice would be good!

I would never use Apple Car she is one very rude lady, if I need a cab then I will stop at Haslemere and pay the extra. I really think we need a Rank and for companys to pay to pick up from there as they do in other stations.

Keep up the fight

Can't we just petition for a bus from Haslemere Station to Liphook. By far the cheapest option for the consumer and very badly needed.

When i first lived in Liphook, a bus used to run from Whitehill to Haslemere, via Passfield, Conford into Liphook, along the Haslemere Road, i used to catch the 7.30am bus at the Manor Field bus stop, it then would continue to Haslemere station, then return to Whitehill, they used to run every two hours the last to return to Liphook was at 6pm, this was back in the early 1970s, i think they stopped this service due to lack of use.

A good idea for a petition, to have this service back, good luck.

I would prefer to see another taxi firm operating out of the station or ideally a rank as the lady operator is very rude, and i would rather use any other provider even at great cost.

[editor - It looks like we have 2 legitimate Rob Wright's using the site, which leads to the problem with this post (see below).

I have renamed this entry as R A Wright to distinguish it from Rob Wright (below) who appears to be the 'original'.]

Someone is pretending to be me. I do not share the view expressed here. And I did not send the posting in the first place. Grateful if it could be removed as soon as possible.

Not in a million years would use this firm. The lady is sooo rude and the cars are dirty. Please people of Liphook do not use this firm. No way would i ever use them. There are other firms out there such as Liphook Taxis or Courtesy Cabs. I know alot of people who feel the same as me about this firm and the unsociable rude attitude of the woman. Apple Cars are not a good representative of our village. Peter asked the question so i have to give an honest answer.

The female proprieter of Apple Cars is the rudest person I have ever met.
An appalling advert for people visiting Liphook from off the train!

Aside the attitude of Apple Cars which I can't comment on not having first hand experience (despite the almost legendary reputation of said angry woman!) the availibility of cars at Liphook station seems to be a problem.

They simply dont have enough vehicles to service the need of a station based taxi company. Alton station also has a similar scenario whereby Wilsons have the contract with SWT. Wilsons at least have a large fleet of cars, which means there is often cars on the rank waiting.

Haslemere and Petersfield both have 'open ranks' which means any car licensed as a hackney carriage can ply for hire (as long as they are licenced and operating in the local authority).

As Apple Cars are no doubt also taking private hire jobs they simply don't have the resources to service the needs of passengers getting off the train and requiring a taxi.

Its a good policy to keep the numbers of a few taxi companies in your mobile phone.

Also bear in mind if you need a taxi to Bordon then a Bordon based company is likely to be similar in cost to a Liphook firm. This, at least, will cast the net a bit wider.

I must disagree re the lady of apple cabs , we have used her for the last 3 years , and she has always been reliable, prompt , friendly and good fun.

in reply i will ask this question on a open forum, there seems to be a hidden agenda from courtesy cars in regard to this matter. No taxi company will lay on more cars for one train a hour north and one south bound outside of rush hour.If people have a axe to grind it should be taken up directly to the person or company concerned. There is a term that can be used, it is called ramping or deramping .Look it up, i think this fits in nicely with this subject!!!!!!!!!!!
