Gurkha VIP card
- Anon (11th Mar 2016 - 20:17:16)
Did anyone else get sold the Gurkha VIP card this week? We were very disappointed tonight when we went to get our curry and expected the unlimited 2 for 1 VIP card deal to be applied - not the case! Despite the leaflet and seller claiming it was unlimited 7 days a week the Gurkha only allow you to use it Sunday to Thursday. Absolutely furious!! Have phoned the restaurant and they claim it is an external company and it is not their fault however, they let this get sold to customers and the leaflet clearly states '7 days a week'. Luckily I paid by cheque and have phoned to cancel it but others will have paid by card or with cash, I hope the Gurkha will sort this out as it has always been our favourite curry house for take aways and this is very disappointing service.

Yes! Absolutely furious as well. Phoned the Gurkha this evening and they claimed no responsibility despite their name being all over the flyer we were given. We have contacted VIP for a refund under the 14 day cool off law. Will be boycotting the Gurkha until this is sorted so tomorrow's takeaway will be courtesy Madhuban!

We had the same person come to our door twice. I did think it seemed to good to be true so made excuses not to get one. Glad I did now.

Today I had a call from 01218251952 (a Birmingham area No.) as follows:-
Loyalty card for the Gurkha restaurant, in Station Road, Liphook.
They got the type of the establishment wrong (Indian instead of Nepalese). They wanted £25 for the card. This could be a scam as a similar scheme was promoted some years ago by a group unconnected to the said restaurant!

It's the old story if it's too good to be true - don't believe it !
Shouldn't blame the Gurkha though ( Sounds like they may be a victim too)
Make sure you know & read terms & conditions before signing up for anything - Don't act on verbal promises - you can't prove it when something goes wrong- I f they don't provide them - obviously have something to hide!!

I had a call this afternoon from someone with an Indian accent asking if I knew the Ghurkha Restaurant in Station Road.
I had interrupted an important call on my mobile to take this landline call and was also rushing to go out, so when it became clear that it was a similar scenario as described by JBS above, I didn't want to waste time listening to the rest of the sales spiel.
I interrupted and suggested to the caller that he should google Liphook Talkback where there was a thread on the topic he was calling about that he should read.
I then suggested his call might be a scam.
If it had been genuine, and he was employed by the Ghurkha restaurant, he would have protested at that point and explained his credentials, but he didn't. There was a short uneasy silence.
I just managed to say that there was no point in him phoning others in Liphook because news travels fast in our community, but before I could continue, he ended the conversation by saying "Have a good day" and put the phone down. So I was unable to ask any further questions. The call was from a 'withheld private number', so I can't report it.
At least the man was not abusive, unlike some other unsolicited calls I have received in the past, but nevertheless this must be deeply troubling for the Ghurkha restaurant, and I hope no one is persuaded into parting with any money.

We had a call this evening from someone trying to 'sell' us a Gurkha VIP card for £25.
Thanks to talkback we know this to be a scam and told them so.

Just to say, I just had the same call come through, on a withheld number.
The person named 'Ahmed' was trying to sell me a VIP Dining card for use at the Ghurka Chatauri "Indian" restaurant.
They wanted to take a payment of £25, and it would supposedly give me 2-for-1 on all meals, 7 days a week, including take-away. It also came with a £10 bonus voucher.
I asked for a website and they said I could purchase the card at www.vipdining.net - So at least I managed to get that amount of information from the caller.
A quick google search shows plenty of people saying it's a scam.
I'd be interested to hear back from the Ghurka Chatauri to see if they endorse any such VIP discount card.

Jay and others
Why don't you call the restaurant (01428 729355) or pop in and see them.
It is possible that unlike us they do not use talkback so its possible they could be completely unaware of the scam
