Hello Peter,

Ten or more years ago my work took me to Devon most months, one would never see buzzards much before Exeter, always a keenly anticipated event.

Now buzzards are quite common in Hampshire and West Sussex, I think they have recovered well because they are adaptable, myxamatosis in rabbits, a food source, is less common, and less persecuted though they are still illegally shot and poisoned.

Two weekends ago on my way to the Black Fox I spent a few minutes watching a lone buzzard being mobbed by a crow over Coldharbour wood. I think there are about 40,000 + breeding pairs in the UK which now makes them more common than the kestral.

Hello Peter,

Yes ! i have seen a lone Buzzard many times near the entrance to the Deers Hut, and when my Son was outside the house waiting for a lift this Buzzard swooped down into our garden with a dead Pigeon in it's talons...

Hope i see it again and will make sure i have my camera.

Do remember it flying over our estate in the Summer, and all the other birds disappeared..

I am going to keep my eyes open for buzzards now. I have found a couple of photos on-line and they look quite beautiful.

Does anyone know if they would be a threat to small animals like kittens?

Hi Dawn

Yes.. i would think that a Buzzard would see a small Kitten as a meal ... as i said my Son saw this Buzzard with a Pigeon in its claws, and it was a large Pigeon..

Three buzzards seen flying together over the Passfield end of Ludshott Common this morning. Quite a sight.
