Dog Poo
- Peter Wilson (10th Mar 2010 - 22:21:00)
I am getting fed up with people complaining about dog poo on the village green. I am sure that all dog owners Know that it is your responsibillity to keep your dog on the lead and clean up after your dog, the green has been cleaned up over the last 7 days and an extra dog bin being erected but you are still letting your dog mess stay on the green without being cleaned up. Have those small minded people no sense at all.

Dear Peter , as you are residing near the green and are also a councillor why cannot you approach those owners of dogs without a poo bag and say do you need a clean up bag?? please carry one in future, it will surely embarrass them into carrying poo bags it if they see you around?

Thank you for cleaning up the green and putting the bin in it is certainly needed! Please do not confuse those of us that complain about the state of the green and those that are actually responsible for the state its in. Although I wrote the original thread I always clean up after my dog and actually have stopped walking her there now she is older and able to walk further. You will only catch those responsible if you are there first thing in the morning or after dark unfortunately.

I always approach anyone i see not clearing up after their dog wherever it maybe. I felt very sorry for one elderly lady on the recreation ground who had limited mobility and was unable to clear up after her dog. I did suggest she contacted the charity 'cinnamon trust' for advice as no matter what, dog mess cannot be left for others to deal with.
There is also a man on a mobility scooter who has a small dog, I have never seen the dog do a poo, but if it did, unless his scooter is fitted with some kind of heath robinson accessory I am at a loss as to how he would clean up after his dog either.
When I take my dog for his shorter daily walk on the recreation ground in the morning i always have to pick up at least one 'pile' for which my dog was not responsible.
I think all dog owners should pick up any mess they see , be it their own dogs or not. I do it because i do not want to lose the privilege of enjoying our open spaces with my dog.

I would like to take the oppertunity to thank the dog owner who left a big dog t**d outside our house on the Avenue, they left the poo in the middle of the path (perfect to tread into),
If you want a dog and can't be bothered to pick up its poo then stick a cork where the sun does not shine and you can then have the pleasure of removing it when you get to your home and clean its mess!!!!

DEAR BARBARA I always carry many bags and if I see anyone not picking up, I am more than happy to give then one of mine. But the problem is catching these anti social dog owners. If all us responsible dog owners target the ones that don't pick up maybe they will be ashamed into doing the right thing.

peter,
i am confused - you say you are fed up with people complaining about the dog poo, but you start a new thread on here thus compelling people to further write and complain. Then you say people should be shamed into picking it up - but what better way of raising awareness and letting people know that its ok to tell dirty owners who let their dogs poop without clearing up after it than this website!!
dont say you are fed up with hearing people complain about it, talking on here will hopefully get more people involved in changing the problem!

On the same subject, most people are very good at clearing after their dogs in Radford Park, however the pile of filled bags left beside the bins, especially the one near Locke Road, gets worse and worse, could the bin not be emptied more often, there are now even bags in the tree's where someone has been throwing them.

I think the green is pretty gross now. I don't like letting my daughter anywhere near the area now. Kids should be able to roll on the grass and play, without the fear of trading or falling in someone's dog's turd. Dogs should be banned from the village green and use the 100s of sq miles of surronding woodland.
Liphook is full of militant dog owners. Be aware- if I see anyone letting there dog deficate on the village green- you'll be getting a piece of my mind.

just to help why dont the dog bins have maybe a sack holder full of poo bags attached to them this may help the situation also then there is no excuse Radford Park is also a problem there needs to be more bins around the park. I do see a lot of children walking dogs on the green maybe they are not aware of what to do.

Gosh councillor Wilson, fancy opening with a statement that you are 'fed up with people complaining'..........
Although I welcome you and value you taking part in debates here - I find it a little upsetting that this is how you react it when the public make their opinion be heard.
As a councillor you should be tackling this problem head on - not getting cross about people telling you about it!!
Do we pay for the upkeep of these areas?
Is there a person responsible for emptying poo bins?
Is there any thing you can do to rectify this horrible situation in a proactive and positive way?
I look forward to hearing from you again and hope that other councillors will also start to use this forum to talk to the public.

If an alien from outside the Solar System arrived here and observed human beings walking behind dogs picking up their excrement they would assume that this planet was canine-ruled ! Maybe this is why the non-poo-pickers don't do it ! Seriously, you wanted the dog so pick up the poo you disfunctional idiots.
