Have you had an election flier?
- Dawn Hoskins (10th Mar 2010 - 14:00:11)

Hi everyone.

Only a couple of days to go until the election and I would like to say a couple of things.

Firstly, if you have not had a flier yet can you let me know what road you are on - have lots of volunteers willing to post through your door plus I am doing loads too.

Secondly, I have been overwhelmed by people saying that they are 'fed up' with the Parish Council and what a joke they are etc etc. Because of this many of you have said that you are not going to vote as you think it will be wasted time and energy to turn up.

PLEASE - I urge you to rethink this stance. I know there are a lot of problems at the Parish Council [which most of you seem to know about that I have been speaking to] but unless you vote you are just maintaining the status quo.

To those of you that I have spoken to in Conford and Passfield - I know it is a pain to have to drive into Liphook and that you feel disenfranchised but - PLEASE - make the effort. If I get in I will try to reinstate the Conford Village Hall as a polling station so that you can walk in like you used to.

If you don't vote - you are not really in a position to moan.........

If you have any questions that you would like to put to me, Nigel or Dr Judge please ask. I'm sure all of us would like a good turn out - it is such a waste money otherwise.

All the best
Dawn

Dawn,

The Mead has not received any fliers. And I'd love to have one!

I do have a couple of questions i am hoping you will answer.

- Playpark - this is close to my heart at the moment. My friend and I have been petitioning the parish council to have our current run down one re-furbished. Can you tell me your thoughts on re-furbishing the play park?

- Openness from the council. I think you have made yourself clear on this one - but what changes would you make to the PC and what would your powers be as a councillor?

many thanks

Hi Dawn,

I've actually received 2 of your flyers!!

BTW I thought it was an excellent piece of writing and it almost persuades me to go out and vote for you!! Someone who wants the job so much and is willing to try for it a second time, deserves a chance IMO.......it doesn't bother me if you ruffle feathers at the Parish Council ;)

I've also received a flyer from Dr Judge....but nothing from the 3rd candidate...so sorry I've forgotten his name....

I took the decision early on not to have fliers printed. This has saved a deal of paper and money.

If I haven't been able to visit you in person, then I apologise. The demands of work have not allowed me to knock on as many doors as I had hoped.

I would like to echo Dawn's sentiments and say again that everyone should make the effort to get out and vote. I've said it before; if you don't vote then you hardly have a mandate to moan at the parish council!

Nigel Myall,
Candidate

would like to have this answered

You can only vote on the council election if you reside here. No businesses have a vote, BUT anyone who has a business - or works here can stand for election? (ie Dr Judge)

Is this a democratic system? - surely all those who use the parish on a daily basis should have a chance to vote who they feel should be involved in making decisions that does and will have consequences to ALL aspects of the community?

Eligible voters and final result
- Tom Horwood EHDC (11th Mar 2010 - 12:20:39)

Sue w -
An interesting point about businesses not being allowed to vote, but this is all strictly governed by legislation.

Everyone -
The votes will be counted late tonight after polling stations close and the result will appear on www.easthampshire.org immediately. I'll send them over here too.

Thanks Dawn
Yours was the only one received. Put through the letter box last night. Thats what I call service.

Hi there. Thank you all for replying. I hope that you get a flier now. If not please look at the home page on this site as there is now an electronic version which you can access.

With regard to the facilities currently available for sports and recreation etc. I wholly support a revamp for the play park and don't quite understand why it is in the state it is. I also have concerns about the skate/bike area which is often covered in glass etc and too hidden away for my liking. Dark hidden places encourage the wrong people IMO I know that the local children use the fantastic Grayshott ramps and think it would be a good idea to have that here too.

With regard to openness - for a start I will not accept any minutes from any meetings that miss out crucial points. For example - Qustions from the public! Recent examples are Mr Terry Burns - whose points were hacked from the official version and when he complained they were ommited AGAIN!

I will most definately communicate using this site so that the public are aware of all the good and hard work put in by us volunteer councillors. At present only the bad news seems to get publicised . This is largely due to childish behaviour getting talked about - which is good as it shames people into behaving IMO. I plan to draw a close on all the sniping and bickering. You do not have to be 'best friends' to work together but you DO have to be polite and civil and behave in a manner appropriate to your position. If you cannot keep a civil tongue in your head you are obviously not cut out to be a councillor!

I would like to see a facility to ask questions by e-mail or by using this site. This will mean people don't have to turn up for meetings in order to ask a question or raise a point. I think the idea of a stuffy council meeting puts most people off and I wish to counter this accessibility issue.

I hope that helps.

I would also like to wish both Nigel and Dr Judge good luck for tonight. If either of you want to do a car share I am planning to drive to Penns Place to watch the count.
Give me an e-mail if you want to go together and save petrol - purplecurly@hotmail.co.uk

Have been to the Marie Celeste and voted.

Re: Have you had an election flier?
- Nigel Myall (11th Mar 2010 - 20:37:42)

I echo the "Marie Celeste" opinion, voting has been anything other than brisk.

Hopefully those who have not yet voted will get out and do so - the weather is quite mild tonight. You do have until 10pm.

Let's see what the morrow holds.

i voted! let the best councillor win!

Re: Have you had an election flier?

I had mine, its gone in the bin - could the editor remove the flier from the news headlines and put something more interesting in its space. From the election result (well done everybody) it probably didnt make any difference. Dawn Hoskins posted yesterday afternoon to say she was one of the volunteer councillors already....all very confusing....how could that happen, and perhaps we could have an explanation as she did not get elected.

Re: Have you had an election flier?
- barbara (13th Mar 2010 - 13:54:17)

I do not see anywhere that Dawn had stated she was already a councillor. All 12 PARISH COUNCILLORS are unpaid volunteers but Dr Judge was elected, and she also sent out fliers.

Re: Have you had an election flier?
- Dawn Hoskins (13th Mar 2010 - 14:56:21)

I most definately did not say I was already elected!

I was asked what I would do regarding particular issues and I answered the question.

Not sure what the confusion is?

Dawn
