Best/Fastest Broadband in Liphook?
- Christine (30th Jan 2016 - 11:50:19)
Could anybody out there 'in the know' please recommend the best/fastest & financially economic broadband provider for the Liphook area. Not asking for a lot - just want to be able to use my computer without tearing my hair out! BT is driving me crazy!
Many thanks.

I very recently moved to SSE for phone and broadband after getting very fed up with Talktalk. SSE were a good deal and one of the cheapest offers...my TV is also via internet and have had no problems with switchover or speed.

ditto.
Passfield is a nightmare most of the time.
today I have waited hours and keep having to come back to the computer as it says I have no internet connection at all.
I would be very interested to hear.
| | Dawn, the Passfield exchange is still old upto 8mb broadband. Where you live you should be getting around 6.5mb download. If not you should talk to your provider. |

I heard something recently on the radio that countryside areas would be too expensive to convert to fibre optics so the areas outside of Liphook would fall into that category. Apparently there is an upgrade planned foe those areas to a different faster type of copper wiring, but when I cannot remember!

To be honest, the speed differential between suppliers (for the same service) will be much the same, however the service level will be very different, especially of you're currently with BT. I jumped from them a couple of years ago after some appalling service, moved to PlusNet and have never looked back. I've since helped a few people in Liphook to move across to them which has been a breeze. For the sake of diligence, I'd check out Utility Warehouse as well but PlusNet have been doing some really good offers lately.
Obviously you need to be sure that you're free to move from BT without penalty, as well as check what add-ons you want from your new provider such as voicemail, free UK calls etc to get a complete picture of your new costs. When I moved both my phone and broadband I saved a whopping 45% AND went from just 10gb download capacity (not speed) to unlimited.
I'm sure there are other good providers that other people may recommend.

Thank you all for your time & responses. Plenty of food for thought. Will certainly start my research campaign based upon your comments & will update post when I have something concrete to report. Many thanks once again.

I have been with Zen Internet for a number of years now. I chose them because of their outstanding customer service (for which they have won a number of awards).
I have only ever needed to call their support team twice in the past 4 years. Each time a UK based expert answered quickly and my problem was resolved quickly too
Very much recommended

You first of all need to know what the REAL maximum possible speed is for wherever you live. That depends entirely on how far your home is from the nearest BT distribution box - the grey thing at the roadside. Go to:
http://www.uswitch.com/broadband
and enter your postcode. This will give you a guaranteed average speed that will almost certainly be less than the eye watering "up to" claims of all the providers.
Armed with that info, talk to your preferred suppliers and see what they try to sell you. Beware of anyone with a claim that is nowhere near what you know is your limit.
As for suppliers, Utility Warehouse is one of the best (Which - Best Buy) and if you also use them as your energy supplier, you get extra savings.

Does anyone have Infinity in Liphook? We're connected to Cabinet 16 (which is in Station Road) and it's showing as "We are exploring solutions. We're working with government and industry to explore ways to bring Superfast fibre to as many people as possible but don't have a plan for your area yet."
Which seems ridiculous when the exchange itself is showing as Fibre enabled (I also just checked and the next road up from us is on cabinet 14 which is enabled).

I suffered BT Slowband and their Faulty IP phone system for over a year. Finally wrote to the Chairman of BT and tried to get my money back. I was told to contact the Ombudsman !! Form N1 got the ball rolling while the Dark Group www.fast.co.uk swung into action sorting out the mess BT left us in. Last week after attending 3 Court Hearings against 3 different BT barristers finally the District Judge agree with me. I'm pleased to report fast.co.uk Dark Group are easy to talk to and won't BS you, their IP phone system and Broadband is still going strong...priceless contact !!!!

Just used one of those "test your broadband speed tools" and we have a download speed of 6.18mbps and an upload speed of 0.29mbps.
Welcome to Passfield!

Janet- it'll only get worse when the 48 houses and *community centre* are built!
Contrary to what we have been led to believe, I've been told by a Surveyor working on a build up the road that BT won't upgrade.
Welcome to Passfield indeed.
