Missing Black Cat
- Sooze (16th Feb 2010 - 10:53:17)

Last night at around 6.45 pm (Monday 15th Feb), I was driving past Sainsburys and saw two ladies lifting a cat out of the road to the pavement. I stopped my car and went over to see if I could help them. They said that they saw the cat hit by a car and the driver just drove off (?!). We phoned the Liphook Vets and they were closed and were referred to Midhurst. In the end, the two kind ladies drove this poor cat down to a Vet's in Petersfield - by this time we all thought that the poor animal was very sadly dead.

I am posting this so that anyone who has lost a large black cat last night in Liphook might have some idea what has happened to him or her - I cannot believe that someone could have hit this large cat and just driven off as if nothing had happened.

Sooze,

Thanks for posting this and for the people kind enough to stop! My cat was hit and run outside our house near the millenuim green shortly before christmas - it was around school run time and the car did not stop. It was thanks to a very caring neighbour who picked him up that I knew what happened to him and also did not have to discover him myself. Unfortunately cats do run out in front of cars and hitting them can be unavoidable - but please think and stop they are loved pets and someone is missing them and deserves to know what happens to them.

Jo

Jo, so very sorry to hear that you lost your loved cat recently - we have a cat ourselves and I cannot imagine how I would feel if this happened to us - it only takes a small amount of time to stop and carry the cat so that it is off the road and call the local Vet, etc.

The two ladies that took the black cat to the Vet last night sent me a text this morning to say that they caught the Petersfield Vet just as he was leaving and the cat was definitely dead - so very sad as I am sure there is a family in Liphook today who have lost a much loved pet.

Sadly it was my neighbours cat and yes they were very upset but at least they got to hear the news and not be left wondering.

Hi Jo

Please send my condolences to your neighbours - please tell them that their cat died very quickly on the scene (this is what we all thought but we needed a Vet to confirm) and did not seem to suffer. The two ladies wrapped him in a travel rug straightaway and he or she was with people who care and love animals. Hope this helps them in their sadness.

Hiya,

Myself and my mum were the ones who stopped along with sooze to help the cat. After taking it to the vets, turns out the cat was micro chipped, therefore they contacted my mum today and thanked her for taking the cat in. Thank you so much sooz for stopping, its really nice to know someone else cared as much as we did. Lets just hope there are others that will stop in the future!

The cat was a little girls and they are upset but extremely grateful that they now know what happened. Thanks again for doing this message and for all your help.

Emily & Linda
