State of Millenium Green!
- Jo Thompson (15th Feb 2010 - 12:07:19)
We have just got a new puppy and at the moment its only able to walk short distances - living near the millenium green its ideal for getting her used to the lead and the outside world. When I finally coaxed her onto the green with my two young children I then spent the next 20 minutes or so playing dodge the dog poo with both an overexcited puppy and two overexcited kids! In the 4 or so metres i ventured onto the green i counted no less that 15 piles of poo - even one that had been bagged up but left on the grass within one metre of the bin!!!! It is literally like one huge dog toilet! I went armed with bags and my puppy was thoroughly cleaned up after - it only takes a second!

Hi,
Could the local council provide signage for dog walkers to observe?
This mess is also a health risk to our children.

Being saying it for along time, Liphook is the DOG POO Capital of Great Britain!
It's everywhere,on the paths, playing field,if your lucky you might get some on the bottom of your shoe. Why do dog owners think their pets are so fantastic, when they c--- everywhere.
If your fortunate enough, you might get one that likes to jump up an lick your face, the owner always says it's ok he's friendly, nothing a size 10 won't cure!
Lets ban dogs from all play areas, and start to cure the problem!

I think that the main problem with the green are the dog owners who just let their dogs run off their leads (their is clear signage that this is not allowed).
There are a couple of dogs who run free at around 6-6.30 each morning when it's still dark and there is no way that the owner can tell where they are 'going'. This happens during the day as well and I don't see the dog owners running all over the field with them to clean up - how can they see what their dog is doing when they are at the bottom of the green and their dog's at the top.
This makes me really mad and makes people like JS think all dog owners are irresponsible.
Please don't let your dog off their lead on the green!!!
And whilst I'm ranting why is it ok for the cats in my road to c*** all over my front lawn? No ones' going behind them are they?
Off down the green now with my lovely Rocky and lots of bags so JS please keep your size 10's away from us...)

If you have a problem with anything around the parish you should take your complaint to the parish office. They only need 3 complaints and they are supposed to do something about it. Well this is what I have been told and it would do no harm to try it.

Every other Saturday, I along with others have the fantastic task of picking up dog c--- from the mini soccer pitches up at the Rec.
This is a major health hazard to all the young children playing football.
It is about time, in public places, that all dogs were kept on a lead by their loving owners, that way they can control them and hopefully clear up the mess they leave behind!
Also I tend to side with JS, there is no way I want a dog running up to me or my family, whether its wagging its tail or, not.
After all, if its just met another pooch, they do not shake paws, usually one shove's it's nose up the other one's backside, then happily licks away.
There has also been times where there have been dogs, the type that can eat you, running around, without a care in the world, so yes JS a good size 10 seems like a good cause of action!

...one extra word of advice....don't take small children or dogs on the path behind the Millenium Hall - that and the auditorium area are very often covered in hundreds of small bits of broken glass....which are rarely cleared up despite telling the people who run the hall...

It really amazes me that with all of the lovely commons and dog walks around the area people walk their dogs on the green at all, Iron Hill is only a short distance from there where your dog can cr--p to its hearts content without harming anybody.
To me its just dog owners being lazy. I have a dog and never walk it around the village, I take it to Ontario camp, Iron Hill or even to Liss Forest (in my van).
One solution to this, ban dogs altogether from the green.
Incidentally has anyone noticed the litter all over and around the green?

Tower road is the same I have written on here before about it. Reported to Dog Warden EHDC no good. I have now sent a message to the councillors at the parish council and I am awaiting a reply

I am currently only walking my puppy on the green as she literally can only cope with 5 min walks but as soon as possible will be walking her at all the great walks around as believe me there is no enjoyment in walking round in circles on a giant dog toilet! Dogs should be welcome in recreational areas if they are under control and cleared up after as the majority are family pets and therefore you are at these places with your children too!

Please do not tar all dog owners with the same brush - I am just as disgusted with the mess as you are and like the other responsible owners of Liphook always clear up after my dog.
It's easy to say don't use the green or don't walk around Liphook - of course I take my lovely boy to Iron Hill and other open spaces where he can run and enjoy himself. However I am limited to when I can do this i.e not every day as he is petrified of going in the car and it's not easy trying to get a 50kg shivering goldie into the back of my estate and I need my husband or son to be home to help me. And please don't say if he went often enough he'd get used to it - he doesn't. I'm also certainly not going to walk around those places in the dark after work
So we go around the green or the village where I feel safe and he doesn't feel stressed by a car journey.

peter
Thanks for letting us know! Its good to be kept in the picture. Are we able to have more doggy doo bins?
I would love to know more about what you do around the village - perhaps a weekly note from you on here would help us acknowledge the hard work you put in.
thanks again peter!

Is street watch still in operation? Seem to remember that once someone posted that this was an area where the clipboarded volunteers could take details and report any such fowling?

Hi
Street watch must still be running as there was someone sat in the foyer of Sainsburys today. Don't know what he was doing though as he just sat there - wasn't trying to engage the public as far as I could see.
Walked round the green today, covered in dog poo still. Looked for the extra signs Pete but up but could not see them. Eventually spotted them on the lamp posts by the houses, far too small only about 6 inches across. Very tasteful though but rather pointless I am afraid.
Pete and the groundsment do a fantastic job but the only way to stop dog poo on the green and the rec is to ban dogs. Sad fact but true.

Katy whilst I share wholeheartedly your frustration I cannot agree that all dogs should be banned.
Why do you want to penalise 'good' dog owners like me? You might as well say let's ban ALL kids from these areas to stop those that leave rubbish and glass etc! Everyone was all nicey nicey about the drinkers who sat on the benches for months when I thought that was shocking!
Somehow we have to get the message across with real penatlies to those dog owners that are spoiling it for us that do no harm but banning us all is completely unfair.

It is good to have issues of concern in the Parish raised and commented on. The most direct course of action to grab the Parish Councils attention is to attend the Parish Council monthly meeting.
At each meeting a section of the agenda is devoted to "Public Participation" as "Public Questions. Adjournment for questions with respect to items not on the agenda"
In my experience the Chairman of the meeting takes such questions from the public seriously and if unable to provide a clear answer will seek to do so outside the meeting. The more parishioners attending meeting the better!
Alternatively parishioners can, and indeed should be encouraged, to write to the Chairperson of the relevant Committee or the Chairman of the Parish Council stating their concerns and questions.
The other route is of course to contact a Parish Councillor and ask to discuss the matter and seek their support as to what might be done to address a matter of concern to the individual or individuals.
The more parishioners taking an active interest and seeking action on issues of concern to them, through the channels available, the better for the Parish as a whole.

Sigh. Why does everything on this website end up being about the Parish Council, personalities and 'their powers'. Is their nothing else for people to worry themselves about around here?
I thought realier this year we were close to having rules to keep these threads focused, maybe with a section for 'Parish Council' only and to stop making spurious, half-hinting posts about named individuals and their behavious (cf. thread on the by-election) and drop the long running sagas.
Back on track people - dogs c****ing on the green is the subject of this one!
I happened to notice last night that you car - I'm quite convinced - SMELL the excrement from said animals left on the green. It actually stinks down there.
