Hi, this is far to common at Sainsburys. We always struggle to get a place in the parent/child parking. People just want lager spaces so there cars don't get hit. So people who actually need them have to struggle to get their child out of a car seat without smacking the car next to you. Selfish drivers!!

It's amazing anyone ever managed to raise children before parent and child parking.

Are you sure they were not in great need of convenient parking?

What a ridiculous reply Helen. It's not about convenient parking. It's about being able to open your car door so you can get your children out of their carseats.

"Parent and child" parking spaces should be done away with, in my opinion. There should instead be "extra wide" spaces that anyone can park in on a first-come first-served basis and they should be positioned furthest away from the shop entrance.
Spaces designated for disabled drivers should be nearest to the shop.

These post about not needed parent and child spaces must be by people who have never had to try and negotiate getting a baby/ toddler out of their carseats without bashing the car's next to them. Then the spaces are nearer the shops so parents can get shopping trolleys without having to leave their children miles away from the stores unattended.

The majority of people that want to park in the child and parent spaces without young children are usually the same people without pushchairs, aren't disabled but insist on using lifts in shopping centres. Fat, lazy and selfish people who need to stop being lazy, lose some weight and then maybe they wouldn't need the extra wide carparking spaces.

When I had small children there were no 4x4s, no child seats we only used our common sense.

We sat children in the back of our cars but of course there were no supermarkets and we just parked where we were able or else walked.

Tar everyone with the same brush why don't you!!

I use lifts when stairs not available because I am petrified of down escalators - you are showing the exact same intolerance you are excusing the parkers of!

Why does practically every thread on here end up with nasty, hurtful and uncalled for comments.

Sarah.

Your comment makes no sense at all. People do not use the wider spaces because they are fat or lazy but because many cars are generally bigger now (like it or not) than when Liphook Sainsburys was built. Proximity to the store is not the issue as there are 'standard' parking spaces just as close to the store entrance.

The newer Sainsburys in Godalming has addressed the problem with much wider spaces for everyone.

I agree I don't see why people without chrildren park in these spaces. I don't have children but I know and have seen the struggle of getting children out from looking after family and seeing parents stuggling.

Yes they didn't have these spaces years ago and people managed before but it is like anything times have moved on and we do have them now so people should respect that they are there to help parents and not abuse them. Also having a big car is no excuse to do this I have a 4x4 and park in normal spaces all the time.

Imagine what it would be like to have say two children, one aged fourteen months and the other a new born, you now have to park your car in a normal parking space. There's no room to bring the trolley up to the side of your car so you have to put one child in the trolley whilst it's in the path of other cars using the car park, you then have to leave that child there in the trolley whilst you go and get your other child out of the car, and then do the same again when you return with your shopping. Just a thought!

People without kids are not 'abusing' others by taking up child parking spaces they are inconveniencing them. I agree with whoever said that they should be for everyone on a first come first served basis. If you have a large car that has not been knocked by others in Sainsburys standard spaces you are very fortunate.

I don't use parent and child as no longer qualify - some people are just rude and ignore all guidelines

I suspect this is going to continue though as full car parks except for empty designated spaces for disabled, parent and child and growing - electric chargers increase

I will continue to leave them free, especially disabled...
