A must for everyone
- Irene & Russ Ellis (25th Jan 2010 - 16:44:41)

Back in August we went to the Deers Hut for the 40th anniversary of the Pillock and we bought one of their DVD.

We have just finished watching it and I cannot tell you how impressed we were and felt that anyone old or young should see it. If you are a new comer or if you have never heard of them they were a group of young men who bought a red double Decker bus converted it into living accommodation and left Liphook in 1969 to go round the world.

On their journey they recorded their travels on a cine camera and have now made it into a DVD. Some of the countries they went through you would not dare to go in now and some of the problems they had and the way they got sponsorship for their trip on route was quite remarkable given the era. We think they were definitely pioneers and fore runners of the young students that take gape years to travel the world.

It comes in a double pack and the second one is films they made in 1966 around Liphook. It records wonderful events and pictures of how the village looked then including the old road layout the Anchor hotel annex and the old church centre which was a wooden hut but was used regularly by all the locals. It also shows a picture of young people growing up in our lovely village in the fantastic community that we still have today.

So if you haven’t lived in Liphook for very long (ie less than 40yrs or so) this is a must for you.

To read more about it and to order the DVD got to their web site which is www.pillock.org or contact Paul Johnson 36 Longmoor Road Liphook.

Pleased to hear you are interested in buying the DVD as we are sure you will enjoy it. I understand Paul Johnson has been in touch with you and is sorting supplies. Happy viewing.
