Trains
- Mike Brown (13th Jan 2010 - 09:02:35)

Hi

Just trudged back from the station having been told that nothing is getting past Haslemere. The chap there said that he doesn't see the situation improving this side of lunchtime and then only if it stops snowing and the temperature rises. This is despite the website showing trains running but with delays!

Best advice is if you can work from home, do so.

Thanks for the info, it's very useful.

I gather trains heading Southbound from Guildford have been subject to extensive delays and last minute (i.e. turn up to find out it's not happening!) cancellations.

National Rail website advised my jounrey planner to 'Find alternative transport' - genius!

Hi Mike,
Hope you've thawed out by now. I've discovered how useful twitter is during this weather. Forget the inane "I've just blown my nose/been to the toilet/had eggs & bacon for breakfast", I've found googling 'south west trains twitter' has been useful as it updates itself whenever a new entry comes in (don't know if this is a feature of explorer 8).

www.google.co.uk

Also #uksnow has been useful too.

Cheers,
Sumi

I know South West Trains are not to blame for the weather but there is huge scope for improvement in their communications. Along with a number of people I was stuck at Worplesdon (oh joy!) yesterday morning. We only found out that a southbound train was heading our way when a fellow commuter heard from a friend on that train. The guard did his best but SWT had no information for him. On the way back we were turfed off the train at Haslemere. After about half an hour a train arrived - but it was a fast. Would it stop at Liphook and Liss? No way. And "too late to change it now". The guard on that train was determined not to make ay extra stops. We waited another half an hour for another train. SWT trains staff do their best but seem to get no back up in terms of information or procedures. No good complaining to SWT - you just get a banal reply. Rant finished.
