lost opportunities for village retailers!
- Sumi Olson (9th Jan 2010 - 10:58:54)

is there any retailer in the village selling snow shovels and children's sleds? we've asked around but no one is selling them which is a pity given the ideal sales opportunity!

liphook cycles were seeling sledges a couple of weeks or so ago, they were stacked outside, maybe with the recent weather they have sold out?

my husband improvised and made one out of a plastic barrel/container and it works just as well and the kids love it

Hi Jo
yes, David's just made one from wood today so Freddie can ride on it tomorrow. Snow shovels less easy to improvise. If i'd access to a 4x4 i'd've taken advantages of the cleared a3 and gone to guildford to halfords or the other diy stores and got a proper shovel instead of using the garden one!

Hi Gary,

Yep, I can see that they might have sold out - just hoped they'd have replenished stock by now. Even if bought with trade discount from the guildford DIY stores (or anywhere else), they could still be sold on at full price with this demand or even at cost (I come from a sales background - it's what I'd have done anyway).

If anyone gets new stock in, please could you post an update on the site? Thanks for this!

Sumi

Yes there is a lost opportunity for retail to sell sledges and snow shovels - something that upsets us more than you!

We CANT GET stocks of either.

We went to the warehouse prior to the snow before xmas and they had roughly 2,000 sledges. The next day Trevor had to go back to Sunbury (Warehouse) on the day of the first snow fall, and phoned and ordered some - they had all gone.We usually have 10 over the xmas period and often one or 2 are carried over into the winter. If we had stocks it would NEVER had been enough to satisfy the demand. They could not get further supplies until after the New Year - and since then we have not been able to get to Sunbury. I have checked and they do not have any. Neither did our other suppliers.

We did have shovels etc, but not enough to supply the demand - and neither did big organisation like country wide. It certainly does not make good business to bulk buy such products on a whim that you may sell loads - if you knew how much snow we were going to have then you must be blessed - because we didnt. We looked very carefully at the weather, got what we could and supplied those that we could.

Many apologies to you for failing.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Ian, who lives closeby to the shop, and opened every day, while we were unable to get out.

May we take this opportunity to thank those customers that support us and Happy New Year to you all

Hi Sue
Thanks for your update and good luck to you (and anyone else planning to sell them in the village) in finding supplies fast.

Ah, if only I had the gift of prediction - I'd be stock-piling lottery tickets not snow shovels!!

Happy New Year to you too,
Sumi
