LIPHOOK IMAGE
- Mani Rai (3rd Jan 2010 - 10:16:52)

Most of what is posted on Talk Back seems to attract criticism and what comes close to cyber bullying. Even the Editor who manages Talk Back in his own time without remuneration is not spared! I know that in posting this I am setting myself up as a target for more of the same, but I feel strongly enough to at least air my views.

As one of the founder members of Liphook Business Initiative (LBI), it grieves me to read the articles posted on Talk Back. LBI is trying to PROMOTE Liphook businesses, but if I were an outsider hoping to do business or visit Liphook, reading Talk Back would put me off! I am all for freedom of speech, but would YOU visit, do business or want to live in Liphook if you read the following, all of which appeared recently on Talk Back:

Don’t park your car in pub car parks in Liphook, because someone might hit it and drive off without owning up to the offence.
Don’t walk in some of the streets in Liphook because gangs loiter there and you could end up in a fight with a drunk.
Don’t trust businesses in Liphook because some are “allegedly” running unlicensed businesses.
Don’t look to the Parish Council for help because they are “allegedly” embroiled in what is assumed to be misappropriation of public money.

There is a lot of good work that goes on e.g. LiDBA bike ride, Liphook in Bloom, BLACS, LAMPS, Liphook Carnival, but to name a few, but their efforts to promote Liphook are scuppered by the actions of a few. PLEASE, LET US WORK TO PROMOTE LIPHOOK AND NOT PORTRAY IT AS SOMEWHERE YOU SHOULD AVOID.

Let this be our New Year resolution!

Mani

Hear Hear, Mani!

Liphook IS a great place to live & work When I moved here, I joined the WI and BLACS so I could become part of the community and I consider myself extremely lucky to have met some really caring, fun, energetic and socially-minded people. There is so much that's good about this place and it's easy to forget that a great many people don't use this website or even know about it. Let's not be judged solely on the negativity that come up here.

You've put forward a great resolution for 2010, Mani, Happy New Year!

Sumi

PS - ditto thanks to Alan. He's been a very generous supporter of the village & its activities not just by running this site, but last year, his business was a headline sponsor of the BLACS Annual Exhibition, for which we were very grateful.

I support everything you have to say and it reflects exactly what I felt in the thread I started about postings on talkback. We should all do whatever we can to improve the image of this site and in turn this should help the marketing of the village which will help local business. A good local resolution for 2010.

Hurrah for Mani, My family has lived in Liphook for thirty years now and we have enjoyed our time here. Liphook has three super schools - infant, junior and comprehensive - all with dedicated staff. The village has many clubs and societies - brownies, cubs, scouts and guides - all run by volunteers. We have the Peak Centre which does terrific work for the elderly - they in turn use volunteer drivers. How many villages the size of Lihook could produce a Carnival such as we do - again manned by volunteers. If I had been wondering about a move to Liphook and had looked at this site - it would really have put me off buying here. Let's look at Liphook from a positive angle instead of all the recent negativity. It really is a very good place to live.
