Global Warming??
- Eneida (3rd Jan 2010 - 08:36:08)

Last night we watched an old film on video that we had recorded many years ago....although we didn't know when.

After the film ended, there was a weather forecast for the following day and it turned out that the date was New Years day 1988....quite a coincidence!...anyway Scotland was going to have a day time temperature of 9C and most of southern England 13C....a positive heatwave !! But just look at these pictures of Cumbria yesterday...

www.dailymail.co.uk/news..

So have all the 'experts' been lying to us? Is it all a big con to get more money from the tax payers??

I don't think I'd be standing directly under that very heavy, sharp pointed lump of ice myself !

But that aside, I too believe that "Global Warming" which was renamed "Climate Change" (because they have no idea which way it is going to go) is really outside of our control and is being used as a means of scaring the population and extracting more taxes from us.

Hear hear Alan - it's all about taxing us under the Untouchable banner of Climate Change - " ... after all, who could object to higher taxes to save the planet?!"

No harm in being prudent about energy usage, but I suspect that in the years to come we will all be hammered with Green Taxes.

Cheerio! Am gone .... !

An interesting point of view, Alan, especially in the light of the agreements/disagreements at the recent Copenhagen Conference on Climate Change where the sharing out of Carbon Credits (our new World currency), by and large, took place. No doubt about it, this is going to be one mega bucks industry funded only by the taxpayers of the developed world.

If you fancy an interesting read on the subject of Climate Change/Global Warming, click on Wikipedia "Gaia Theory".

It gets a wee bit chewy at times, but offers a well researched hypothesis on the subject.

However, if Lovelock, it's author is right (see paragraph on Gaia's Revenge), Then our goose is well and truly cooked anyway.

Happy days!

It does appear that global warming advocates have assumed an almost religeous belief in global warming, and if anyone doubts their belief they are labelled as heritics or cynics.

When science is corrupted by belief, objectivity becomes a casualty and the politics of the question assume a major influence as the 'industry' around the belief gathers momentum.

Recent scientific information seems to indicate that we are as likely to suffer a new Ice Age as we are to experience the consequences of global warming.

It seems sensible to reduce pollution, invest in alternative energy resources and make the most of what we have got without being caught up in 'save the World' hysteria.

I agree with everything you say in your post Bill...it does seem to have become a 'religion' to some people.

I also think we should be investing in future sources of energy, but I do believe, from all I've ever read about them, that we're wasting billions of pounds and spoiling some great landscapes by insisting on building useless wind turbines.

We should be spending this money on state of the art nuclear power stations, like other sensible countries I could name....
