Town/Village Crier - Stephen (1st Jan 2010 - 20:09:40) As far as I am aware Mr Terry Burns is the Town Crier for Haslemere. There is no Town Crier for Liphook and could not be because Liphook is a Village unless he is the Village Crier. Can anyone else confirm this or comment?

Re: Town/Village Crier - Eneida (2nd Jan 2010 - 15:31:57) Stephen, I suggest you type 'Town Crier' in the talkback search facility at the top of the screen and you will be able to watch a film of Mr Terry Burns, the Liphook Town Crier, in action !! You may be interested to know that the Watchdog programme was prompted by a discussion started on this site....

Re: Town/Village Crier - Stephen (2nd Jan 2010 - 20:30:58) Eneida Somebody told me today that Mr Terry Burns is the Halsemere Town Crier not the Liphook Town Crier as it was in the papers. I did hear about the Watchdog programme. But wouldnt Mr Burns have to be appointed by the local council to be the Liphook Village Crier or can you just decide to do these sorts of things yourself? I dont think we have a Liphook Town Council but you may know better. The papers and people using Talback always refer to a Parish Council. Look on the left hand tabs.

Re: Town/Village Crier - Russ & Irene Ellis (3rd Jan 2010 - 12:09:06) Terry Burns is Officially Haslemere Town Crier but was born and has always lived in the Parish of Liphook . His main aim in life is to do all he can for the people of Liphook young and old to keep Liphook the lovely place we grew up in. He is also a man who cannot say NO, so if he is occasionally asked to perform the duty of town crier in Liphook he willing does so. Haslemere doesn’t seem to have a problem with it and as it puts a smile on peoples faces and helps to promote Liphook, which was what he was trying to do on watchdog, it can only be good. So if he has not got official permission WHAT IS THE PROBLEM. Liphook by council ratings is still a village but if you wish to enter it into anything judged on population as Liphook in Bloom do we have now just toppled over the small town mark and are now from this year judged as a town.
