Liphook Bowls club
- Law obeying citizen (20th Jul 2015 - 21:24:18)

On Sunday I was at the skatepark not in the skatepark but on the grass by it. After a while I noticed an OAP coming out of the bowling club riding his bike on the path which is against the LAW shame on liphook bowling club

Cycling on the footway (pavement) is an offence under Section 72 of the Highways Act 1835 as amended by Section 85 (1) of the Local Government Act 1888.
Note:
Footways are not footpaths! ‘Footways’ (pavements) are not the same as ‘footpaths’ and their legal status differs. A footway runs alongside the carriageway, whereas a footpath is located away from it.

Therefore since you witnessed them on a footpath and not the footway beside the road they actually did nothing wrong.

Shame on you, accusing an elderly person of a crime they didn't commit and then pouring scorn on the club as a whole!

This is the issue with OAPs. You give them an inch and they will take a mile.

First it's cycling on the footpath - maybe not technically be illegal but surely inconsiderate and potentially dangerous - next thing you know, there's going to be unauthorised croquet sessions on the Rec, and congregations of OAPs spilling out from the Bowls Club causing all sorts of problems.

That's what happens when you install a community facility aimed at a specific demographic - it will eventually be abused and social problems will follow.

There's certainly lessons to be learnt from this incident.

- tit for tat (21st Jul 2015 - 09:16:15)

Sounds like a bit of tit for tat.

Tit for tat definition

Giving back exactly what one receives: “If you complain about me, I'll do the same to you; it's tit for tat.”

Older generation complain constantly about the youngest not playing on the skatepark properly and causing loads of noise late at night.

So now a older adult has been seen riding on a pathway by bowling club , the youngest thought they would get their own back.

I don't suppose my comment will get posted, but what a pathetic lot you all are, it's all so childish, have none of you really got anything better to do with your time??

Eddie my name is John Fowler, I made a point about Cycling on the footway (pavement) etc. I never been inside the bowls club, play bowl or am I an OAP. From you post it looks like you have assumed am someone else also called John whom your having a disagreement with. Sorry if this has led people to add 2+2 and get 5! But John is a common name :)

Such a shame that people find the need to ruin the community spirit! One day young will be old! Also on the community sports day it was nice to see all ages participating in lots of different activities without age discrimination.
