Community Magazine
- Paul Ellis (12th Dec 2009 - 09:33:33)
Some of you may have read a letter from me in the current issue of the magazine which I wrote as a contrast to a letter in the previous issue which I found somewhat patronising.
I didn't expect my letter to be published, at least not without reference to me, as I would have edited it somewhat.
My wife and I were the original owners of 28 Hazelbank Close
and the estate was built on ground that was previously trading as Hazelbank Nursery (plants, etc.) and that the income we had, as mentioned, was mine alone, my wife being a full time mum and did not go out to work, as was the situation with many families.
On arriving in Liphook we couldn't understand what all the excitement was about, but of course it was the annual carnival preparations in hand around the village, and we visited the Royal Anchor one evening for a quick drink and, having declined the purchase of a meal were asked to drink up and leave..."we don't encourage the locals to come here" we were informed! We also overheard a comment in the Anchor complaining about the difficulty in employing houshold staff! Is that still a problem for anybody?

Can you post your letter here? I would be interested to read it if you still have it on the computer.
