Fencing around football pitch in wreck - why?
- Aly (29th Nov 2009 - 23:52:20)

Walked through the wreck recently only to sees metal barriers have sprung up surrounding one of the a football pitchs, when did that appear and why, and who an earth paid for it? Have they had trouble with pitch invasions? Can't wait for the stands to be built. It just seems to have spoilt what was a really nice open area were kids could play without worrying about riding their bikes into er a metal post. Does anybody know who and why?

The reason for the new bars is due to the promotion of Liphook FC to the next division. Its part of regulations.

As an open space there is still plenty of room for all to enjoy what ever activites they wish. Well done to Liphook for producing a team of this calibre that were able to get promotion. If you wander to the rec when the firsts are playing you will see that they now draw quite a crowd of spectators.

What is great, and hopefully the council could consider extending it , is the tarmac path which runs up one side of the pitch. if it went all the way around the perimeter of the rec it would be great for joggers and 'mini' cyclists alike. The current path which runs along the top side is in a dreadful state, barely beyond being a bog!! It would also make the recreation ground accessible to wheel chair users which would be a bonus.

I know the barriers may not be the most aesthetically pleasing aspect of the rec but take pride as a Liphook resident in the reason they are there.

Aly
after reading your post it seems to me as a 'regular' visitor to the rec, which you obviously are! Is that the pitchside barriers that have 'suddenly' appeared actually started going up in september. TIME FLIES! My children seem to still be able to ride their bike there as im not expecting them to enter the tour de france any time soon i believe there is plenty of room to still ride bikes or do anything else you usde to be able to do other than walk in a straight line diagonally across the rec but this only affects the minority in this village. Good to see people supporting the village and its clubs or societies.

Looks like very little thought went into fencing off the corner - why have a 6 inch wide area for the whole world to troop across to the other pitches & clubhouse.

I was there last weekend and it was an utter farce.

Don't say use the path at the top of the bank, as unless you completely block off access to the pitch, people won't use it.

Cheers, Finchie

You seem to have a lot to say Finchie but obviously you don't use your eyes as much as your mouth as there are three openings in the barrier, one being 2 metres wide one being 8 metres wide and the third being 30+ metres wide. If these are not big enough maybe you should be doing a little more than just walking across the rec! Thanks

Gaffer - I have been accused of not using my eyes many times.

I will have to revisit and open my eyes, as for whatever reason I did not see the openings. I probably just assumed that as it was "fenced off", the fence was all the way around. Or that the opening were not in a convenient place - whatever happened, I thought the shortest distance from the car park to the other pitch was along the bottom - and then got bogged down in mud.

hey ho, you live and learn !
