Thieves are about again!!!
- Dee (27th Nov 2009 - 09:38:10)

Last night some very nasty little oik, decided that yet again our property could have a visit from him. As my luck would have it, I was out at the time it was only early evening, BUT my neighbour Simon Coyte happened to be out, saw a car stop drop off said oik and the car drove off( Simon took car number), oik broke into my garden.

The good samariton Simon phoned the police and his son Adam who was out having a meal in the village with his girl friend (had to get changed before he could go back out as he was muddy), he came at once when his dad phoned him, Simon shone his torch in my garden and told oik to get out, he did saw Simon and thought he would leg it, BUT he had not seen Adam (plays rugby), who then tackled him to ground (very wet, cold and muddy good), and kept him there till the police arrived about 25 mins later.

But another good samariton stopped Ed Weeks who is police man (off duty and not in this area). The police stopped the car on the A3 and took them in for questioning.

The nasty little oik from my property was taken away for a free ride in a police van. Please lock up your sheds and be careful these thieves will travel to steal from you and your property.

I was lucky this time thanks to my good neighbour and his son. Thanks again Simon and Adam.

Dee, you are very lucky to have such wonderful neighbours. I hope I have "an Adam" should something like this happen where I live.

Let's just hope the urchin gets all that is due to him and be a lesson to other would-be tea leaves.

Don't hold your breath.

In this increasingly politically correct world it would not surprise me to learn that the miscreant is at this moment laying on some couch eating wafer thin mints and being counselled for the trauma of being accosted in the dark while he fills out a claim for dry cleaning his clothes, to be paid from the public purse, of course.

Give me strength

Well done Simon and Adam. It is wonderful to see people doing something for others without a thought about themselves. It is a shame the passers by at the station didn't do the same for the lady who fell at the station.

Really pleased to hear that someone stepped in and stopped this crime. How about sharing the car details and names of the 'oiks' so that we can all look out for it and them in the future?

Hi
Its me again.
Had a phone call from the police last night, the 2 in the car are not having charges pressed against them!! The oik that Adam caught has to appear in court at Portsmouth dont know the date yet, but I have asked to be informed, it appears he has a string of offences longer than your arm. The car involved was a BMW 3 series. Remember to lock your sheds and garages to stop more little oiks getting away with your goods.

Well done Simon and Adam. All those years of rugby have their benefits!

I shall be keeping my Maglite to hand...

We have had some chancers calling on spec asking if we have security systems installed. Be careful if this happens because it is obvious they are looking for places that are easy to burgle. Also a neighbour of ours had a perculiar experience when a bloke called at their door pretending to look for a house name that obviously didn't exist. The caller kept questionning what the names of houses in the area were, including the one he had called on. It is easy to be too paranoid but some instances are just too suspicious.

How about a nice public flogging in the square, watch them scream, maybe it would put others off.
Maybe the Arabs have got it write cut their hands off.

I don't mind helping to make some village stocks.

Well said "some stocks would be an excellent idea, we should name and shame those who have upset other"

I also think we should be able to defend our homes with reasonable force. People in America are allowed by law to defend their homes with reasonable force...

People dont reaslise how breaking into someones house can effect them... not sleeping at night, etc

I love liphook - this story makes me feel warm inside that adam would abandon his meal to come and wrestle an intruder! good on you adam (and simon!) and a big thank you from me!!

on another note - do we have a police be aware email at all? my parents live in a neighbourhood watch area and as an active member of the community my father recieves emails fro the police telling him of any local trouble. would be good to have that here.

People in America are entitled to defend their homes, families AND property with lethal force.
Self defense is a constitutional right which requires no prior written risk assessment. If , in USA, your life or safety is threatened by an unknown agent, you have the right to react accordingly..
If you defended yourself here,as there, you would be arrested and charged with murder or manslaughter and your assailant would be able to sue for compensation

Good, innit?
