Insinkerator help needed - waste pipe possibly blocked
- Mary (4th Jun 2015 - 18:00:19)

Our Insinkerator appears to be working, but the water isn't going away - I suspect that the waste pipe may be blocked with onion peel. My hands and wrists aren't strong enough the turn the plastic connections of the 's' bend.

Is there someone with plumbing knowledge you can recommend?

Hi Mary, have you tried pouring a drainunblocker chemical doen the wastepipe, which would dissolve any food matter blocking it? this someimes works?

Thanks for the reply - and the suggestion.

I would have tried that if the waste disposal unit chamber wasn't in the way, but I don't want to corrode the cutting mechanism. Because of the blockage, the water isn't going through at all quickly.

It is such a simple thing to undo the S bend - simple plastic screw connections - but our wrists just aren't strong enough to turn the supposedly 'finger' tight screw connection. We don't want to damage the pipe work by using too much force.

If I could find a gentle man (as opposed to gentleman!) with some plumbing 'know how' I am sure it could be sorted in seconds!

Most insinkerators can be turned in the event of a blockage by inserting a tool (usually supplied) in the centre of the underside of the unit. Take a look underneath and find something that fits in the hole and give it a turn. That should do it.

Hi Mary,

Have you managed to get someone to unscrew your ubend yet?

Regards,

Terry
