New to area - play groups & infant schools?
- Natalie (4th Jun 2015 - 14:23:31)

Hi,
I'm looking for some advice please. We don't really know Liphook but we're moving here in a few weeks.

I've got a 5 year old and 3 year old twins. Just wondered if there's any good preschool playgroups / places to meet other mum's and children.

Then unfortunately Liphook Infant is full in my 5 year olds year. Not sure whether to wait and hope a place comes up. Has anyone else been in this position? Did a space come up? Or should I look at other schools?

Any recommendations/ advice greatly appreciated?

Many thanks in advance
Natalie

Hi
We moved to liphook in Feb 2014 and my daughter couldn't get a place in Year 1 at liphook infants.

Do you know where you are on the waiting list? We waited 6 months and then started looking at other options in November she got offered a place at Hollycombe School in Milland which is a lovely small school and she is very happy there.

It wasn't our plan as we could easily walk to liphook school but has worked out for us and she has joined rainbows and made friends from the village too.

My son is at mad hatters nursery which I would also recommend. There are loads of toddler groups too.

Welcome to liphook!

Hi there!
I help run a pop up soft play area for under eights. We aren't weekly but we are here fairly often!

Our next date is this sunday at Rake Village Hall 10-4 £4 per child £1 non walkers. Lot's of really friendly parents come and it's a great way to meet new people!

www.Facebook.com/tjaystime take a look at what we get up to

Hopefully see you soon!

Amy

I think we're top of the waiting list at Liphook Infant but unless someone moves we're stuck. Hollycombe looks great but is also full. Think maybe we'll stick it out until summer holidays and see if there's any movement at Liphook. Then reevaluate in September. I guess admissions will have to allocate a school place locally if we can\'t get into Liphook.

My twins are starting the Willows in September which again looks great. Staff are really lovely. Hopefully we'll meet some people through there. Just worried about moving to a new area, just before the summer holidays but I'm sure we'll be fine.

Thanks for information on softplay Amy. Can't make this weekend as we're busy packing but hopefully get along to one soon. Thanks.

Thanks everyone for your advice. Much appreciated. X

Hi
Welcome to liphook we been here since last year
My son started willows last year and loves it he really enjoys it
It's right next to a park which is quite handy when we get the nice weather
The willows nursery is really good nice little place and the staff are fab
Couldn't of asked for anything more :)

It's a shame about liphook school :( maybe someone may move etc
In life something always happens that people change areas / schools
So you never know and sept is a few months away
So fingers crossed

My little one doesn't start school till next sept so he still be at the willows
I'm sure the schooling / council would have to get your little one in somewhere

There are a few toddler groups on a Monday and a Tuesday and
At the nursery behind bohunt school there's a toddler group on on a Thursday not sure of timings though ?
I found out from this page and Facebook too
And google :)
I think there are groups on a Friday
I'm not sure now what they are all called

Good luck with your move
:)

Hi Deb,

So your son will still be at the Willows when my two start in September?

Did you know Liphook or anyone there before you moved? How have you settled in? Now we've exchanged I'm getting a little nervous.

I've also found some details of groups but can't find any for a group on Tuesday. Do you know where and what time it's on?

Thanks again Natalie

Hi Natalie

We moved to liphook last year and have found it extremely friendly. With kids in tow you will no doubt get to know people very quickly. As far as playgroups are concerned there are a few. Little lambs on a Tuesday morning at the church centre and another one at the church centre on a Friday morning are both good. I'm sure there are a few more too. The playground at the recreation ground (where the willows is) is a great way to meet people too. Most of the playgroups won't be on during the holidays so that will be a good place to head.

Good luck with the move x

Will do - thanks

Hi again Natalie that's great that you are 1st on the waiting list hopefully you will get lucky. You can phone school admissions at the council and ask them where they can offer you a place for September and even if you accept that so that you know you have a place somewhere you can then remain on the waiting list for Liphook.

If any of the Rother Valley schools have spaces they fall under West Sussex so you would need to contact their admissions dept.

Good luck with your move. Also checkout Pyjama drama they do some great classes in the holidays for little ones,

Thanks again Camilla. I've contacted school admissions now. Hoping to hear back from them soon. As long as we've got a new school organised for September. I'd rather not move him midterm. Then we'll just stay on the waiting list for Liphook and hope. Thanks again everyone. Not feeling quite as nervous about our impending move now.

Hi Natalie,

We moved in January 2014 and our little boy in year R was 6th on the waiting list.

He was placed in the school around July. You should have no problem getting in if you're next on the waiting list.

There's a really helpful lady who deals with admissions at the infant school who should be able to put your mind at ease if you give the school a bell.

You'll love Liphook. It's a great place.

- Deb (7th Jun 2015 - 08:53:59)

Hi

I cannot remember the group on Tuesday I will try and find out unless there isn't one? But thought there was it was no good for me as my younger one goes to nursery at 9.30 am all day he goes
And this group was at 1130 I think
Mine is at the nursery already and doesn't go to liphook infants till sept 2016 so your children will be there sept and he has already been there since last year if that makes sense
Where did you come from where you moving from if your moving from big places which are busy and there's a lot around
You will get used to it here it's nothing like that around here in liphook

We moved from very busy built up area in Surrey
Had everything around
Was pushed out of our area we were born in for 41 years for my husband and 37 years for me
To be forced out and of the only area you know and was born and bred is disgusting
Just because we cannot afford to live in any areas of Surrey
But we were born and livedin a very expensive part
That's the only reason why we came to liphook
But leaving friends and family is distressing for my youngest and for my eldest teen . Whole life been turned upside down
Liphook is nice but hopefully will move back
Hoping house prices have a property crash there and we can move back home
Wishful thinking

I have made a few friends here now at first i find it hard to make friends here
Not like back home but then again I was there all my life so obviously I made friends through going to school etc and still had my school friends :))) and met new ones along the way .

I have heard pyjama group is good we have never been

Good luck with your move :)
When are you moving ? Maybe we can have a coffee whilst our children are at nursery . I have started working so that's brilliant
That's another thing I had to leave my job to live here
But my mum used to look after my youngest so I could work
Instead of paying out for ridiculous childcare
Rates

I'm sure I will get used to liphook one day just takes time I suppose
If we hadn't been in one place all our lives we would of been ok and not known any different.

Take care xx
