Nice walks/Views
- newtoarea (1st Jun 2015 - 14:28:46)

Hi everyone,

We have just moved to the Liphook area, and are keen to find some nice scenic walks around the areas (hopefully that might also lead in the direction of a pub? balance out that healthy walking)

We are very close to the MOD range so will give that an explore when the flags are down, but wondered if anybody had any other tips for us?

Many thanks

Have a look at liphookramblers.wordpress.com they have a very active program.

Hi there if you are able to find the Hammer Vale area, there is also a scenic view from the top of Bramshott Common and the Prince of Wales pub is at the bottom.

You can walk from that area to Waggoners Wells ponds and back underneath the A3 by using the pedestrian underpass. The circular walk from the pub would be about an hour and a half.

Hello and welcome :) there are so many lovely walks round here it's hard to know where to start, but...

Drive down Longmoor Road and turn left towards Old Thorns. Park up just past The Deers Hut on the left and you will be on Weavers Down. Lots of lovely walks there to explore and a great pub to stop off at after you're done.

Go down Midhurst Road out of the village and you will shortly see Iron Hill on your left hand side.Follow the footpaths and you can do a nice circular walk.

Radford Park off London Road is a nice, easy walk.

The footpaths off Portsmouth Road out towards Foley Manor are also worth exploring.

Hopefully, that'll get you started.

Jane

Thats brilliant, thank you so much. Will certainly get me started and all sounds lovely, thanks so much for taking the time to reply.
Love this site as well - brilliant idea, after a few hours of trawling, I feel like I know the area inside out already ;)

some lovely walks on Weavers Down with some great views. Dears Hut nearby but also there is a footpath through Foley Estate which takes you past some lovely lakes and brings you out by The Links

If you don't mind a short drive (under 10mins) the Devils Punch Bowl in hindhead has lots of walking routes with amazing views.
It is also great for off-road running and cycling

Lynchmere common has some of the best views and endless walks.

Drive along Haslemere road and you'll get to the Lynchmere road on the right, turn up there and park, there are always cars there but you won't always see people.

If you go to the right there are spectacular views and you can walk along the serpents way to Iron Hill or along the footpaths deep into West Sussex. There are other ways to get up there without a car but your best bet is to buy a local map and tramp the paths yourself.

Oh my goodness, where to start?! if you like walking, then you've come to the right place! There are loads of places to choose from.

Have a look on Google maps for these locations; they are all within a 5 to 10 mile radius of Liphook.

Frensham Ponds
Black Down (highest point in the South Downs, so great views)
The Jumps
Thursley Common
Hankley Common
Lynchmere Common
Hindhead Common
Devil's Punchbowl
Chapel Common

Going a little further afield (but not much further) there are some lovely walks from Queen Elizabeth Country Park, which is just down the A3 past Petersfield. Or there's Harting Down, just outside South Harting, or Butser Hill. Loads of walks in the Midhurst area, Woolbeding Common, lots of walks in the South Downs .....

There are many many more. This is a wonderful area for walkers.

If its views you are after then Blackdown near Haslemere is the place to go. Easy parking. Great walking and at the Temple of the Winds, where Tennyson had a writing hut you can, on a clear day, see the sea.

i think the[ temple of the four winds] is on the other side
by going up to the end of bunch lane[ haselmere]
and walking up to the gibbet from there.
you pass the temple on the way.

Confusingly, there are two 'Temple of the (four) winds' in the area.

Paul, I believe, is describing the one on Blackdown:

South Downs Black Down Temple of the Winds walk

Mel, I believe, is describing the one on Hindhead common:

Temple of the Four Winds at Hindhead

Both are good scenic walks. Hope this helps.

Hi
In response to your post, you could always try the liphook library to find out information on the area and local walks.

Where are the Jumps?

If you park at the "Bel and the Dragon" hotel in Churt near Thursley, there is a footpath near the sculpture Park. It is not in Liphook.

See Google Maps
