Are you sure this was not a may bug, they are about now. Quite scary when they fly around the bedroom!

They were Japanese beetles no doubt. Go on line see utube.

Could it have been a chafer, they are apparently very similar. Not supposed to be any JBs in UK, they are a high on border quarantine lists.
Why the direction to YouTube, did you video it, if so please provide a link, not sure if they are a notifiable pest or not.

I found this one in my garden last year.
They do not live long.
