Accident in Radford Park
- Jenny (14th May 2015 - 09:40:20)

On Tuesday morning I was walking my dog in Radford park and fell off the end of the bridge near the entrance from Locke Road.

The condition of this bridge (and the footpath this end of the park) is appalling. A hole has worn through between two of the sleepers which is a trip hazard and the end sleeper has become loose and moves when you step on it. It was this end sleeper which was my downfall (excuse the pun!) and I ended up landing heavily on the ground.

Many thanks to the gentleman who stopped to help me up. I have broken one leg and sprained the other ankle.

I would urge all other walkers to take care as I wouldn't wish this on anyone else.

I will contact the Parish Council and hope they see fit to make repairs urgently.

Many thanks to the well wishers above. I will be out of action for some time so Poppy (the dog!) and I won't be out and about for some weeks.
The Parish Council sent somebody down as soon as I contacted them I understand - well done - but I wish it hadn't taken this to get it repaired!

Hiya,

Just wanted to say sorry about your accident.

We have just moved to the area from my parents in Ash, and are greatly missing their dog!

Should you need someone to take your dog out while you are incapacitated, we are keen walkers and are always happy for some companionship!

Thank you for the last post. I have found somebody to walk my dog but thanks for the offer!
I'm still incapacitated but looking forward to getting out and about again.

Hi,
I am the guy that stopped to help.( Coincidentally with my Jack Russell called Poppy.) I am amazed and impressed that you got home with a broken leg and every good wish for a speedy recovery. I did offer to call an ambulance or fetch my car so my conscience is half clear.

As a new resident I am so impressed with Radford Park. Part of it is slippery and uneven but that must be the very nature of the Park. I fear if you want to stay completely without risk you are confined to the grass and the pavements. I am of a certain age and would not go there without my phone just in case......these accidents happen when you least expect them.
David
