Felling of oak on Silent Garden site - don't let it happen!!
- Pete (12th May 2015 - 10:41:44)

I was alarmed and surprised to see that the beautiful oak on the Silent Garden site (Portsmouth Road) is to be felled shortly by Cove Construction, to make way for a development of houses.

Liphook is a beautiful area that must be conserved as far as possible: trees such as these have stood for decades untouched and I am keen that all that can be done to protect this one is!

We don’t have long to comment - 25 May is the ‘deadline’ set … so PLEASE, I urge you to look at and comment on the application by going to planningpublicaccess.easthants.gov.uk/online-applications, and enter ref. no. 26295/011 – you can see details by clicking ‘search’ and then ‘make a public comment’.

Thanks - Pete

It seems particularly unnecessary as it is on the edge of the site. However it says the application has been withdrawn, is that correct?

It does say withdrawn, but under Consultee Comments is says this...

Bramshott & Liphook Council, The Haskell Centre
Comment Date: Mon 27 Apr 2015
No objections subject to replacement tree, as proposed by applicant. Recommend that felling delayed until at least July, after Woodpecker fledgling, and replanting delayed until suitable prominent location, close to existing tree & in context of new development, can be chosen.

So they might have withdrawn the application, but plan to reinstate after July, so it gets less attention/isn't in the public domain for so long.

Worth keeping an eye on it!

If you register an objection with your home address and email address, then EHDC should inform you of any resubmissions or any news by mail or post. Worth doing if you want to be reminded to check later in the year.

We are very aware of public wish to retain our beautiful trees where possible and the planning committee fully support this view. However there was a detailed aboricultural report with this application. This tree has an extensive amount of rot and damage and even with a TPO the right exists to fell a tree which is dead or dangerous. Surely better to do this before it is surrounded by housing.

The final decision will rest with EHDC but Bramshott and Liphook planning committee requested that should this application be approved, that felling is delayed until well after the nesting season and that the site of the replacement tree should be as a focal point for future residents and future generations.

Please read the documents on EHDC's website and post your comments.
