Puppies
- Dawn Hoskins (9th May 2015 - 12:45:51)
After mourning the loss of our labrador for a year or so, we have decided now is the time to bring another dog into our family.
We are off to Millbrook RSPCA today to register and look at their rescue dogs, but in my experience the dog chooses you and it can take some time.
So in the meantime I would like to put any 'feelers'' out in case anyone knows of any [genuinely] unexpectedly pregnant dogs or unexpected puppies that need homes.
Many thanks
Dawn

Have you tried Treetops in Guildford? It is a Dog/ Puppie Rescue home centre. We got our puppie from their and his grown into a lovely little dog which he is a West highland :) We waited a week for him to arrive as they had to do a home/ garden check first before we could have him. All the best :)

Oh - I haven't heard of Treetops - I will check that out.
We have today been to the RSPCA at Millbrook and had a good look around and also to Battersea Dogs Home in Egham. Our forever dog was not there today but now I am registered I can check out their websites.
I'm sure that there are unwanted puppies in the area, so please continue to listen out for me.
thank you everyone.

Also please try the Many Tears web site www.manytearsrescue.org
This is a rescue charity for dogs who've had a very bad start in life and has some beautiful dogs looking for kind homes.

I have also found this wonderful rescue centre. Chyfield Wildlife Sanctuary in Normandy (Guildford). We are going there next Sunday.
www.ukromaniandogrescue.com
facebook.com Chyfield-Wildlife-Sanctuary
They rescue pups from deathrow in Romania. Thier website is quite inspirational.

I'm sorry for your loss.
Try Chichester dog rescue.
We rescued our Labrador cross Boston Terrier through them.
Muirburn kennels in Horndean was where they sent us.
Unlike the RSPCA . Chichester Dog rescue want their animal rehomed quickly.
They sent a couple of people to see if we and our garden where suitable.
They asked what sort of dog we where looking for.
They sent us to the nearest kennels.
We paid a £50 donation for our new dog. We took her home the same day we saw her.
I would go with Chichester Dog rescue to rescue another dog.
From experience of the RSPCA they want you to pay kennel fees for two weeks.there is no guarantee you will have the dog after two weeks. RSPCA also did not seem to want to rehome their animals . We tried the ark and where you have been. Both wanted money with out a guarantee of you being able to rehome a dog that needs it.
Good luck. The right dog will find you.
My two found me.

I am pleased to say that we have found our dog!
www.irishretrieverrescue.com
The Charity (link above) rescues retrievers & labs from the pound/death row mainly from Ireland. The Mum and a new litter of pups are in Grayshott. We visited today and the pups are only 2 weeks old, with their eyes still closed. Fell in love straight away!!
The Mum was being fostered by the family in Grayshott after being rescued, but they have fallen in love with her and decided to giver her a 'forever home' so that is a happy ending
There are still 2 girls in the litter that need homes, and many other retrievers that need a good home - so please look at the website above if you are interested in a new family member.
Thank you for all your helpful links.
Now - to puppy proof the house.............

Sad to see the number of rescue homes within such a small area, as it must be indicative of the scale of the problem of unwanted dogs.
