Public Consultation Re. Traffic Calming on Longmoor Road
- jenny (13th Apr 2015 - 07:33:55)
Last Friday residents in the Longmoor Road received a letter regarding a meeting to be held at the Millennium Centre, on Tuesday 14th April from 1.00-5.00pm.
This will be a consultation regarding the proposed traffic calming and new roundabout for the 155 new homes at Lowsley Farm.
The Company, Ashville, are presumably appointed to do this, by the Developers.
SO, how many people are going to be able to attend on a Tuesday from 1.00 - 5.00 ....who work?

I think that this is actually in connection with the new Sixth Form College to go on the field next door to Bohunt School.

Haha, I do love it when these companies do this.
I agree with you jenny, it's a joke and out of order to be frank. Someone clearly doesn't want to put in overtime! ;-)

Presumably this comes down to reasonable notice. Did whoever it is organising the consultation give reasonable notice of the event so that folk might attend. If yes, then it's a valid consultation. If not, then it would be an invalid consultation and any findings would be disputed

Nothing to do with a 6th Form College Penny; I have the letter -- dated 8th of April (of course) Opening paragraph"As you may be aware, Planning permission was granted in Dec 2012 for 155 New homes at Lowsley Farm.......as part of this scheme traffic calming measures are proposed and a new roundabout to access homes blah blah"
Following the consultation we are invited to forward our response to the Highways Consultant David Wiseman of Stuart Michael Associates and these proposals will be used to help shape the proposals prior to submission to the Highways Department at Hampshire County Council.
All very useful if you could get to the meeting which is in working hours!!

For those unable to attend this afternoon's consultation event you are able to view and comment on the proposals for traffic calming measures on Longmoor Road by visiting the Lowsley Farm website at:
www.lowsleyfarm.co.uk
Please forward any response to these plans before 21st April 2015 to David Wiseman at:
Stuart Michael Associates, Coombe House, Coombe Square, Thatcham, Berkshire, RG19 4JF
These comments will then be used to help shape the proposals before submitting them to the highways authority, Hampshire County Council.

5 x kerb build outs - reduced road width
6 x sets of speed bumps
1 x new roundabout

Just popped down but what a waste of time. One man in there with a plan of the road. No where to leave your comments although he did say there is a website you can comment on, pity no details of it given out!
There are at least five speed humps proposed (those funny squares that you drive across which pushes you into the middle of the road). Also additional pinch points. Pity the poor people who live by the proposed humps, the sound of cars breaking and accelerating to go round them could be a problem. Also I hate the pinch points, they push cars together resulting in too many wing mirrors biting the dust!
Apparently they have to introduce traffic calming to keep the cars at thirty mph. All the humps and pinch points seem a tad excessive in my opinion.

Do we know where the 30mph limit will start? As you drive towards the A3, will it increase to 60mph? Because it shouldn't with all the increased traffic to the Deers Hut and Old Thorns. If it increases to 40mph, no problem but 60 NO!

Well I live on the Longmoor Road in the 30mph zone, and have to say the average speeds look well over the limit. I have nearly been run down trying to cross, by a car that must have been doing over 50mph judging by the time difference between it nearly hitting me and normal traffic. I have witnessed numerous near collisions between cars (and a few with actual contact causing minor damage) when cars come head to head round the blind bends at speed (there are 2 of these on the Longmoor road). I personally hate speed humps, and living on the road they would inconvenience us personally - however with the number of drivers using the Longmoor road with no common sense and a complete disregard of speed limits I can see the sense in traffic calming measures.
I would support a range including width restrictions and humps. The amount of housing in Liphook is growing, pupil numbers at Bohunt (on the Longmoor road) are growing, it is simply too dangerous to continue as it is, I am worried a child will be seriously injured.
