I've got a Great Spotted one that's been visiting my garden recently...I had to look it up because I've only ever seen green ones in the past, although not in Liphook.
What a wonderful looking bird!! Are they quite common in these parts?

Hi
We've had a pair of them nesting near us for at least the last 3 years and even eating from our feeders and those of our neighbours. Don't know if it's the same ones you've seen - we're over at malthouse meadows and our back garden is near the tennis courts corner of the recreation grounds.
we haven't heard them for a while though so maybe they've moved on...

See both Spotted and Green Woodpecker quite often on the Berg estate - I guess they like the mix of trees.
