Liphook in Bloom Spring Litter Pick. A date for your diary
- Philip Jordan (18th Mar 2015 - 12:22:51)
Liphook in Bloom members will be running their seventh annual litter pick on Sunday 19th April starting at 9.30 am from Midhurst Road car park. We usually finish around noon.
Litter-pick sticks and sacks are provided. Please bring gloves.
The past six years have been very successful thanks to generous help from volunteers. We are very hopeful to receive the same support this year.
If you can spare a few hours, or even just the one, it will help make a considerable difference to the appearance of the village. Our spring flower displays are appearing in the flower beds which, together with a litter free environment, helps ensure the village centre looks at its best. A pleasure to all of us.
Hope to see you there.

Hi Philip
Thanks for organising this - count at least one of our family in for the morning - it's in the diary.
Litter seems to be getting worse and worse everywhere I go in this country. Just wondering when the councils will start litter picking again along the big roads (I believe a fatality has stopped it for the time being). Also, I am happy to volunteer locally once in a while (beyond the Sunday 19th April) if anyone is organising litter picking locally ... especially in the countryside. Get in touch via this forum if you are. However, I think we also need to talk to our schools to try to get them to nag the children to drop less. It seems to be soft drinks, crisp packets and sweet wrappers that are the main litter items ... items largely dropped by kids me-thinks ... just a thought. The fast food places are also a major culprit. Maybe an annual litter poster competition could be suggested (plus prize jointly funded by the parish ... supermarkets ... suppliers of sweets/fast food?). School-litter picking campaigns - prizes for those who pick up (and recycle) most ... H&S I imagine is a problem - but surely there is a way around this .... I do feel the schools (nationwide as this is not just a Liphook problem) do need to educate on this and take some responsibility and am not sure they do enough ... I have not had anything on litter come to me from either Liphook J. or Bohunt via my daughter ... I would be happy to help organise this (not just expecting someone else to do it) ... but would rather do it via one of the established local groups ...
Anyway thanks again.
Cheers
Jacqui Middleton

Don't forget litter picking day next Sunday April 19th. The more people we get the quicker we can tidy our village.
