help with a Sony cybershot camera?

Hi I have a Sony cybershot dch1 and am having a bit of a problem with it!
I bought a new memory card and pro duo adapter for it and have changed the batteries but still can't get it to work! I get a red flashing light on the bottom pointing to the battery and memory card area and the light for the flash flashes yellow.
I inherited it from my grandad who passed away and to our knowledge it was working when he last used it!
Can anyone give me any clues to what it's doing?

If so here is the manual dsc-h1 (PDF)
Does not seem any troubleshooting info regarding the lights you mention - see page 83.
