Help - moving to Liphook with two toddlers
- Virginia (26th Sep 2004 - 14:47:12)
Hi there
We are renting a cottage in Liphook starting next weekend - to try the country life before we think of buying. We have a two year old and four year old - any advice on where to go - swimming pools, fun walks, farms, pub lunches, babysitting etc greatly appreciated. Also any web links that might be useful too.
Thank you
Virginia

Hi,
I have recently moved to Liphook, although my children are older (8 and 12).
Where are you moving from? We have found that swimming is good at Haslemere - it does have a babies pool. Also Petersfield has a nice pool and most people I've met think this is better.
The nearest Macdonalds we've found is in Petersfield. We like the Half Moon at Petersfiled as well.
Pub lunches are difficult n Liphook (you may have read some of the other threads on this site!) The Links is no go with young children (they did accept my 12 year old) The Anchor is ok for a 'cheap and cheerful' although we always eat outside as its too smoky inside!
The Bohunt school is also a Leisure centre (no pool) but the reception staff are really helpful and they can give you loads of leaflets on local events etc.
We have found that people in Liphook are really friendly and have helped us settle in - I hope you find the same.
My neighbour has young children - I will ask her where she goes and let you know.
Hope this helps. - Good luck.
Helen

...Haslemere has a swimming pool (the Herons) as does Petersfield (Taro centre).
In Liphook there's also the Hollycombe steam collection and plenty of country walks.
Liphook Infant and Junior schools are good as is Bohunt. Try getting a copy of the Liphook magazine for more info on clubs etc.
Good Luck!

My children never seem to tire of the walks afforded by Alice Holt (A325 between Bordon and Farnham) There is a short 'Habitat trail' that includes various climbing opportunities for children (probably older than two though). Now that mine are a bit older (5 and 7) they like to take their bikes on the longer trails and this is quite safe.
A bit further up the A325 is a pub called The Millers it is a 'Chain' pub and, as such, it servers 'Chain pub food' but better than most as you can buy small portions of adult food (instead of the ubiquitous turkey dinosaurs)and it does have family facilities inside and out.

Hi everyone!
Thank you for all your advice - especially Petersfield pool, the Alice Holt walks and The Millers pub - will let you know how we get on.
We have been on the Millennium walk around the pond in Petersfield - which the kids loved - and apple picking at Blackmore Farm and Hollycombe - where we got drenched by the rain. The kids also had their first visit from the chimney sweep and have caught 10 different types of spiders - so really enjoying it - although their mother freaked out when a bat came down the chimney and landed on her shoulder whilst watching Teletubbies.
Next weekend we aim to do a tour of the garden centres to find some sand for the sand pit and also plan to try the pub just past Forest Mere on the LHS.
Thank you
Virginia
