New Commuter Service to Liphook Station
- Art Woodhouse (14th Sep 2009 - 13:18:42)
To my delight we have a new AMK minibus service connecting Bordon with Liphook Station that started today and would appear to be a replacement for the old SWT raillink bus. Talking to the driver it appears to be operating to mornings and evening commuter times only and not at other times but he didn't have any printed timetables to give out.
Hopefully someone out there will tell me how to get hold of one and by posting this here I trust news will spread and the service will get used, stay and be expanded.

You would hope that something might also get posted at the station to this effect if not already done so.

Have had a communication from EHDC re new bus which is called number 12 East Hants Rail Link . Part of this press release says " Cllr Dr Bill Wain, Mayor of Whitehill Bordon said, I am delighted that EHDC has been able to respond so quickly to reinstate a service that will benefit residents of Whitehill Bordon and the intervening villages to Liphook."
It does not mention where the bus will stop but there is a contact - Sarah Hobbs EHDC Community Access Officer, phone number 01730 234013 so she hopefully will have that answer.

Hiya,
Thanks for all the responses and clearly there is a lot of genuine good intentions from our councellors to put right a SWT wrong and I really should not very pleased but sadly I believe their efforts are doomed to fail.
What we have now is TWO BUSES, the Stagecoach no13 and the AMK Minibus broadly duplicating the service at limited commuter times leaving us with no service at all other times! As neither bus timetable is in sync with the SWT timetable there is a lot of waiting around and if the train is delayed and you miss the last connection you are well and truly stuffed!
The ONE swt BUS provided a 7 day timetable specifically designed to meet the train and would wait up to 15 minutes if the train was late. Quoting from the meerkat advert, "It's not the same!".
What SWT deliberately forgot to tell anyone was that the old SWT service failed on financial grounds simply because they didn't put the prices up for 7 years. I know people say the service was not used but that simply wasn't true. The service was used by commuters, the late back "boozed" commuters could also rely on it and the Bordon youngsters going out to and coming back from the Guildford nightclubs, not to mention the weekend day outers and not forgetting the army boys returning to camp from leave at all times of the day and indeed days. Over the course of a day enough money could have been generated to fully fund the service if the prices were right. All SWT needed to do was to cover their costs. By not putting up their prices for 7 years it guaranteed they wouldn't so once the train franchise was renewed, without promises to provide this service, they couldn't wait to get rid of it
I remain frustrated because I suspect the current combined funding on both these buses is not far off the declared loss of the old SWT service. Am I the only one that can see this?

Too True
Having the two running at once is a stupid waste of time and money.
