Isn't it funny how we all like to go back to 'olden' times? Even with all the modern conveniences and gadgets we all use.
I wouldn't want to go back too far, just to the days when papers and lovely fresh milk were delivered every day, and you took your shopping list to the grocers, handed it over, and he/she ran around the shop collecting up your items, and putting them into your shopping bag, then after a chat, you went home, we didn't have hardly any modern gadgets, but there seemed to be so much more time for the niceties of life, I know, I'm old fashioned, but just wondered if anyone else felt the same?

Not so long ago, Hampshire Constabulary had 2 Policemen stationed at Liphook, who travelled around the patch on motorbikes. The Police Houses were in Haslemere Road and the phone numbers were in the Phone Directory and you could call round anytime with a problem.
One of the Policemen who many will remember well, P.C. John Dixon worked Liphook beat for 25 years! He is still going strong in another part of the UK.
Now it's all gone to the dogs………………..

Hand your shopping list to Ocado, they will go round collecting up your items, and deliver them to your door. Pretty sure they also sell milk.

i think if the children these days went back a little bit to the 'olden days' it would do them rather good...
maybe they would spend more time outside in fresh air, climbing trees, building dens etc instead of sitting in front of the tv, laptops, computer games etc...
done me no harm...

Just listened to the Kinks Village Green Preservation Society which was released back in 1968, full of songs fondly reminiscing the past. It highlights that looking back to when the world was "a better place" is not new!
I remember as a kid thinking how nice it would be to have new potatoes and satsumas available all year round and now I miss the fact that some foods are no longer seasonal. I guess looking backwards is always helped by rose tinted glasses

Until just after the war milk was delivered around the village by horse float from Malthouse Farm, the milk was dispensed from a milk churn using a ladle to fill a calibrated metal jug which in turn was poured into the customers jug, I sometimes rode on the float with Cath (Sadler).
I don't recall exactly when those deliveries ceased but I guess it was before 1950, yes those were the days and the milk was delicious!

yes, Ian, I'm sure we all look back with rose tinted glasses, and probably when our grandchildren get to our ages they will think back with nostalgia, and think that their childhood was the best, but I personally hate to think what this beautiful world of ours will be like then. I'm just pleased that so many of you agree that things were good for us in so many simple ways.
