Forest Mere
- Jacqui Harris-Jones (8th Sep 2009 - 08:36:32)
Can anyone help with the history of the Champneys spa Hotel old house. I would like to know a bit about its history. When the old house was built and who lived there.
Can anyone help.
Kind regards
Jacqui

A few snippets from "google".
The house was built between 1881 and 1892 by Sir Henry Cotton, Right Honourable Lord Justice of Appeal.
"Mrs Blanche Lintorn-Orman formed a Guide Company at her home at Forest Mere, Liphook. She is recorded in County records as being the first County Commissioner for Hampshire East." - from www.liphookguides.org.uk
I expect a lot more information will be posted.

As well as Mrs Lintorn-Orman, her daughter Rotha Lintorn-Orman and Nesta G. Maude (her daughter's companion) lived at the house and were part of the group of girls who went to the Scout Crystal Palace Rally and asked BP to set up something for the girls exactly 100 years ago.
Hopefully everyone will have seen that Girlguiding started their Centenary Celebration throughout the country at the weekend.
We possibly have some more info with regards to dates, which are not up on the website, I'll let you know.
