No 26 Coffee Shop
- Amanda B (7th Sep 2009 - 18:20:58)

What has happened to the tea rooms? I have enjoyed many girlie chats over lunch there and was wondering if it is closed temporarily or for good which would be a great shame :-(

Thanks

From what I have heard, the owners of the bakery just found it too much to keep going - what with their other 2 shops.

Lets hope it gets going again soon.

Hi there

I recently bought The Tea Rooms from Marc and Angela and just wanted to let you know that it will be reopening as a cafe in the near future. I'm sorry for any inconvenience caused while the cafe is closed, but I am in the process of completely refurnishing it. I am working as quickly as I can to get it open in mid-October and, as well as the new decor, there will be new breakfast and lunch menus, with drinks, cakes and other snacks available all day. I hope to see you then!

ooooh! Sounds exciting, can't wait!

Hi Sarah
Congratulations and we look forward to going there. Please, if there's room, could you include a baby changing mat on the wall? The cafe's been a lovely place for a coffee meet! Look forward to the opening!

I presume you mean on the wall of the loo, as I don't think a baby changing mat looks very pretty on the coffee shop walls?

thanks, Barbara! and they say one never recovers from pregnancy brain...

Re: No 26 Coffee Shop
- Sarah Bolton (18th Sep 2009 - 16:18:52)

Hi Sumi

I've already consulted a couple of local mum's who've filled me in on what I need. So, as well as a baby changing mat on the wall, there will be a high chair, nappies will be available and there will be a toy box for older children as well as a children's menu. Hopefully that will cater for everyone's baby and child related requirements!

Kind regards

Sarah

Hi Sarah
That's great - thanks for the update! Looking forward to the opening. It's a real bonus for the village to have a nice eatery like this. See you soon and good luck!

This is great news for the village. Best of luck with the reopening, looking forward to seeing it all and we will be along to support you.

I hope you are going to have good coffee beans. Darren and Jon used to serve fantastic coffee. That went down hill when they left.

I had a cup in Sainsbugs today (which was quite poor) and I can't wait for you to open again as I don't want to sit in a pub or a supermarket.

Re: No 26 Coffee Shop
- Sarah Bolton (12th Oct 2009 - 19:31:43)

Thanks for your post Dawn. I've sourced fantastic coffee from a coffee supplier in Broadway Market, London. I am working as hard as I can to open on the 26 October and really looking forward to meeting people once I've opened!

You should have a 'Grand Launch' party !
And - get Ben's ice cream - it can't be beaten you know.

Re: No 26 Coffee Shop
- Dawn Hoskins (31st Oct 2009 - 15:04:04)

I would just like to qualify a comment I said earlier. Just because I preferred the beans that Darren used, didn’t mean the beans the next owners used were inferior. In just the same way as I like Cafe Nero and Pret a Manger but not Starbucks. Just a question of taste.

Did not mean to cause any offence – any coffee shop is better than no coffee shop whatever beans are used!

Any more news on the timing for opening the cafe? I had thought it was going to open a week or two ago, around Carnival - we can't wait to try it out!

Re: No 26 Coffee Shop
- graeme irwin (6th Nov 2009 - 14:01:19)

Who cares about the beans as long as Liphook people support it they are local people after all

Re: No 26 Coffee Shop
- Dawn Hoskins (6th Nov 2009 - 15:22:59)

Agreed Graeme.
Obviously, someone cared - but I've said sorry so lets be done with it! Hopefully I won't get hit with rocket propelled sticky buns when I walk past the bakers now!

I notice a brand new sign board above the shop as I drove past today. Looks good.

I'm looking foward to a place to sit and relax between school run and the rest of Liphook opening up at 9am. It's good to see a new business opening up in these horrible times.

Try not to go on a saturday! Would you believe they shut on saturdays! They must be making lots of money already to be able to afford to shut on such a busy day.Mind you, looking at the prices i am not suprised! Think i'll give it the BIG SWERVE! I'll Stick to Shanklys!.

Re: No 26 Coffee Shop
- Bill (4th Dec 2009 - 01:50:19)

Or the folks than run it, and have sat in there all-day, actually know how busy it is on a Saturday. Not very. Balanced against the cost of employing staff to cover those hours.

I'm also guessing the prices are a reflection of the overheads for the location, in relation to the relatively low customers, and spend per customer.

But glad we have an expert to throw his tuppence in.

Re: No 26 Coffee Shop
- dave (4th Dec 2009 - 17:02:55)

Bill, it's true i am no expert on the catering front, BUT, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out that if people are not coming in then you look to become competitive with your retail prices.! I have only been running my own business for 30 plus years in the service industry (successfully ) so what do i know! With regards to the overheads every retailer is in the same boat, they open on saturdays.Having said all of this i do wish number 26 every success, i was just trying to give constructive criticism.

Re: No 26 Coffee Shop
- barbara (4th Dec 2009 - 18:09:05)

I expect that office workers and mums waiting for the school to turn out use it more during the week days than local people at the weekend. One difficulty is lack of parking places but I guess the owner took that on board before she opened. It is easier to park at shankleys.

Re: No 26 Coffee Shop
- Sue W (5th Dec 2009 - 17:18:03)

I think you may be missing something Dave - about half the businesses within the square are not open after mid Day on a saturday! Perhaps that is contributing factor. I think all those that close are missing a great opportunity - but on the other hand some time off is worth more than can be measured in financial terms.

You could say that the mornings are better, but would it be worth opening for just the morning, when it seems that the majority of the Cafes trade is from school mums and businesses? Very harsh to judge that they must be making so much money they can afford to close - just based on prices. From experience in the retail trade, price is not the main reason businesses are busy/successful/good/bad. Many other factors go to make something a success.

Give her time!!

Re: No 26 Coffee Shop
- Paul Robinson (5th Dec 2009 - 17:27:42)

Whilst I wish only the best for No 26 I do think that it would be worth opening on Saturdays if only in the morning. I do all my business in Liphook on Saturday, as I work away during the week, and I have noticed that some of the shops close in the afternoon but most of the others stay open.

As a point of interest I note that a new coffee shop called the Mirabelle Cupcakery has opened in what used to be the butchers on the corner of Lion Green in Weyhill. The place was wedged with every table taken when I drove past at about 3.30pm this Saturday afternoon.

Hi Sarah

I am the Chair of Liphook Junior PTA.
We are hoping to hold a Junior Bake Off at our May Fair on 18th May.
I wondered if you might like to be a judge and maybe provide a prize for the best cake.

Re: No 26 Coffee Shop
- Jo (25th Apr 2014 - 14:20:19)

Jacqui, I think you are a little behind the times, the cafe has changed hands twice since the last message was posted in 2009.

Re: No 26 Coffee Shop
- Allison (25th Apr 2014 - 16:28:40)

I think the current owner, Michelle, would make a fabulous judge if you ask her. She's doing a great job in the coffee shop. Lovely to be able to go there with the family over the Easter break, it has always been closed over bank holidays in the past.
