the land by the spaniard pub
- marc (5th Feb 2015 - 22:02:31)

I am looking at buying the land by the Spaniard pub I have been told it was a hospital during the second world war. The purpose of buying the land is to build multi use motor sport complex, ie speedway and stock car racing with the possibility of go karts and moto x at a later date.

I will be looking to include other facilities for the village use. I would like to know your thoughts on this.

I think the MOD still ownthe land? the Hampshire wildlife trust who maintain Bramshott Common would object too as would all the users of Bramshott Common. Surely the access there too is inadequate for this purpose?

You might as well have knocked on everyone's door at 5am to tell them this as that's how happy many of them will be with this news, engines revving day after day!

I sincerely wish you well but this might not have been the forum to announce it on, now you have the full attention of the planning opposition, no chance, can't even build a house here let alone a noisy race track.

First couple of posts will disagree with me of course just to keep the flow going but soon your race track will be a separate hated discussion fully opposed with little justification with the most fervent of those posters not even using their real names

Next post up is the sam your negative and were lovely, this idea is great etc etc, you wait

Is it April 1st?
Noise from trains, A3 and army, and now a race track?! Who in their right mind would go for this idea? Walking Waggoners Wells would become a nighmare for walking. The noise would be heard for miles.

Assuming this post is not a wind up..... They were not even allowed to build a few houses on the Spaniard site due to even a small increase in traffic accessing the A3 at that point I believe. And yes, for those who get neurotic about these things, Liz is my real name!

Isn't that land in the SDNP? If so you haven't got a chance of getting planning permission

I'd rather see a thriving business than a derelict site personally.

I don't think there would be that much noise as it would be drowned out by the trees and disguised by the road traffic.

Also, I think that housing was refused on the land as it was deemed as a business site and the council did not allow a change of use to residential.

I'm sure it will spark a huge debate about noise etc, but if it gets busy and the nearest pub, cafe, facilities are in Liphook - well.

I think this would be a great idea and it's bang next to A3 which is noisy anyway . With a houseful of car enthusiasts it would be welcomed .

Fabulous idea!
Somewhere for the boy racers to race in a controlled & safe environment & a place for car enthusiasts to meet! I believe the nearest track is Ringwood so I think this facility would be well used . Good luck

Great, we live in one of the last remaining beauty spots in south east England, surrounded by the South Downs National Park, the Surrey Hills, National Trust land and you choose this spot for a banger racing complex, with all the noise and dirt and race track, stands, car parking, lorry loading, trailers, you name it, are you kidding ?

Nothing against speedway, used to go to the one in SW19, but that was in a commercial district surrounded by miles of garages, warehouses, car auctions, diy stores, car showrooms, tower blocks, need I go on?

Are you talking about the old military hospital site or the land surrounding the Spaniard (7 Thorns) derelict area? I suspect the former, probably still owned by the military and where there was once an attempt to hold a "Rave" or music festival. I believe that they withdrew once they knew about the large amount of adders that frequented the area.

Have you been to the race track at Hordean or Brick Kiln Lane, they are in the middle of no where and you can hear the noise from Miles around.
Nice idea, Never going to happen!!

Good luck with the environmental impact assessment for that... I think you may change your mind once you get into those details.

Although a site may look like a derelict wasteland, these sites can be very important for wildlife.

I don't think it is the right spot for your idea - although the public outcry regarding noise would probably drown your application before it gets much further....

- Finchie (7th Feb 2015 - 01:33:21)

Love it. Doesn't have to be noisy - we have an endless supply of motability scooters. Happy weekend ! Cheers Finchie (real name Finchie)

I for one think this is a great idea, a local moto x track would be great,

- Nicky (7th Feb 2015 - 12:28:08)

Silly me.... I thought that the A3 was our local race track - that's what it feels like when I drive down it every morning. If aggressive drivers can get their fix somewhere else instead of on a public road then demolishing what's left of the Spaniard could be a good thing (even the scaffolding looks like it is falling down). There are pros and cons to everything. Sadly, I don't think it will do much to make the A3 safer for all users.

The Spaniard is a shambles, eye sore, disgrace etc etc.. such a "wonderful" advert for Liphook. Something better than this would get my support. Liphook shouldn't be defined by this.

- Tanya wilkinson (8th Feb 2015 - 21:57:58)

Absolutely fantastic, the thought of some speedway without having to travel over 60 miles. I am all for it. Something for kids to do and get interested in as well. more trade for local businesses ( which all need the extra custom). Cant see there being anymore noise than already comes from A3, only noise will be early evening or weekends for those that dont know anything about these sports. These sports need support and to see youngsters getting involved. I really hope you get permission and the support.
