Malta? Travel Republic/ Easy Jet?
- Jay W (30th Jan 2015 - 17:53:35)

Looking at booking a holiday to Malta and Travel Republic and Easy Jet seem to have the best options/deals. We have to travel in school holidays and will have teenagers with us.

Does anyone have any information, useful tips or "wouldn't touch with a barge pole" advice?

Try booking through Liphook Travel, very helpful and much easier than trawling through the Internet.

I have used them for years, not as expensive as you think.

try Thomas cook or Thomson and don't forget to check out your hotel on trip advisor

I do not think their prices can compare with the easy jet website, British Airways now do online packages and give good special offers especially at this time of year. I always check their prices. Liphook travel can only search the market for the operators who give them a commission.
If you are booking a cruise or long haul with complicated stopovers etc, yes I agree but not for a straightforward simple package. I also check trip adviser when looking at the different hotels withinthe package, the travel agent would not do that.
I had a bad experience in Thomas Cook, asked for a quiet resort and the young counter girl suggested Sunny Beach. I don\'t believe it! If I were a very elderly person who did not look at the internet I may have not known she was not correct.

malta is lovely, very friendly people. I lived there for 14 years.
Would say stay away from Paceville , St.Georges Bay, Buggiba these places are full of clubs, mind you your teenagers would it.

You are much better booking a holiday through a travel agent. Travel agents are not expensive and offer a wealth of knowledge. A lot of travel agents charge the same price as online but will do all the work for you. I have used Liphook Travel and they have always been fantastic! They are extremely competitive and can use the likes of easyjet as well as getting amazing room rates as they work closely with a lot of hotels. Don't forgot you'll also be financially protected with a travel agent as they are covered by Abta and Atol which a lot of the websites don't have. We got stuck during the ash cloud but Liphook Travel managed to get us home on a different flight and a lot earlier than most other travellers who had booked online.

I flew with RyanAir out of Bournemouth airport. Easy enough as you park right in front of the terminal and a good alternative to Easy jet from Gatwick. I also used James Villas which I can recommend.

Just go somewhere else.

went to Malta once, hated it.

All the swimming pools are salt water. there is only one beach near the north of the island, about 100m long, and it is permanently packed.

the roads are awful, we hired a car but saw round the whole island in a morning and the roads were so bad we handed the car back.

the people are indeed very friendly. So if your prime and only reason for a holiday is friendly natives, go ahead.

If you want proper swimming pool water, space on a beach, the ability to sightsee....go elsewhere.

I went to Malta last October on an all inclusive holiday. We went through Malta Direct who were very good. We stayed on the top of the island with amazing views over to Gozo and Comino. We had three pools and a lovely private beach. It was Fab. I would recommend you go

If you have found an area you like the look of, go on Tripadvisor and see if there are any reviews. I find it really helpful.

Thanks everyone for the input. Will look into some of the recommendations.

I had been looking on TripAdvisor but in the end my head was spinning so thought I would ask on here.

Have always used Thomas Cook before and have never had a bad holiday with them (although we chose very, carefully) but their prices do seem higher for similar deals.

Mercury Direct all inclusive- we flew with Air Malta. All good. Stayed at Seabank Resort and Spa. Good value for money.
