Loud explosions at about 9.00 pm
- Mary W (29th Jan 2015 - 21:55:09)

Several nights recently I have heard some loud bangs, like shells exploding. They sound as though they are south west of the village, very puzzling.

Does anyone know what they are and where they're coming from?

They are coming from the Army ranges to our west/south-west.

Mary I am so glad you asked, as I have been hearing them too! They are not only at night but during the day as well.
My pets don't like them either!

That's the problem with living close to army ranges. Been happening for as long as I can remember. Preferable to the low flying Chinooks we also get, now they are REALLY loud

The army go on exercises at any time of the day. The 'bangs', flares and low flying Chinooks are quite normal for the area so don't worry!

It's just the army practising on the ranges.
Don't worry about it.
Sometimes it is light, but sometimes, like last night, it is heavy artillery.

Better they practise here before being deployed though!!

Thank you for the replies. I've heard the light guns in the past, but never these huge explosions? Glad it's nothing to do with Russian bombers!
