Portsmouth Road/Old A3
- liz (20th Jan 2015 - 09:14:37)

Does anyone have any idea when this will re-open? Can't be doing much good for local businesses.

Actually, it probably is doing good as it is pushing traffic past the Station Road shops and generating additional passing trade for Sainsburys.

Hi Editor

You may be right but parking in Station Road is even more difficult due to the constant stream of traffic. May benefit Sainsbury's but as a multi-million pound business it dosn't make much difference to them! It would still be interesting to know when the road is likely to open.....

herald last week said it could remain closed for 12 months

its so nice to have a quiet road to live in again and not get abuse from impatient drivers when your try to get onto your drive

mind you still plenty of people ignoring road closed signs

There is a sign on the lamp post at the station road end of the railings, which you can only just read as they have secured it behind the post but it does say that 1 lane will be open by the end of this week. That's going by what I could see anyway.

I called HCC and was told 15th Jan a couple of weeks ago. Then the labyrinth of scaffolding appeared. Today I was told 2nd Feb. No doubt arguments as to who will foot the bill has caused the lengthy delays.

All the traffic is now passing the shops on station rd, but not actually stopping and using the shops in station rd. At the same same time, the amount of traffic is actually putting customers off using station rd shops that usually use these shops. This is actually affexting the trade and all shops in station rd have seen a drop in takings since the rd closure.

Payment for wasted time caused by drunk driver
- NMG (20th Jan 2015 - 21:07:04)

I am becoming increasingly frustrated at the apathy that the residents of Liphook are showing!

Surely I am not the only person who is wasting huge amounts of time caused by the drunken driver who decided to park in a block of flats.

Each daily journey time is increased by approximately 10 to 20 minutes per day, if not longer. This multiplied by each and every working person in Liphook and surrounding areas, then calculated by an average daily rate of pay would run into millions.

When the London to Cornwall railway was damaged, it was re-opened in two months. Surely a decision should be taken to demolish this poorly constructed building, or if it is possible to repair, get on with it. Either way, GET ON WITH IT!

I am sure that the unfortunate residents of the flats would prefer for the whole building to be replaced, as even once repaired, who would want to purchase such a blighted property.

Should we send our invoices for payment for wasted time to the drunk driver, her insurance company or HCC?

I think the thing I resent most is that pedestrians aren't allowed through along the far side of the road. It is so difficult for elderly peopl who could just about manage the walk to the sorting office and bank, but find it just too far to walk round the other way. I suppose equally bad for those living in Portsmouth Road wanting the shops in Station Road.

I can't believe it would be impossible to make the rough path up the bank safer. Or to have made a walkway through on the far side of the road.

I haven't been up there to look lately, the traffic is too dense! But assume nothing has changed in the last week!

NMG,
Payment for wasted time?? Seriously grow up. How much would you say your time is worth? If your late for work as a result of sitting in traffic, then why don't you do what thousands of other commuters do in England, leave earlier.

I have to say I'm with Paul on that one.

Re: Portsmouth Road/Old A3
- Nadine (21st Jan 2015 - 12:58:04)

Ah but Paul and Barny, time is money. You are correct if one is driving to a job as such, but if you are self employed and have to go out and about round the village many times a day, like a plumber for instance, then it all adds up!

Re: Portsmouth Road/Old A3
- Barny (21st Jan 2015 - 15:05:12)

Fair point Nadine I hadn't considered that. I'm not sure just how much added time it takes outside of the core rushhour timings but then I don't have to contend with that so am in no place to argue. I'll respectfully keep quiet :)

Well said Paul, it seems to be common sense that if you need to get to work on time then you leave earlier to avoid the school run! As far as I can gather, the roads around Liphook are fine outside the school times and lets face it ours is a tiny inconvenience compared to the poor people who's lives were turned upside down by this incident.

I'm quite sure those whose lives were "turned upside down" by the incident would like things sorted out even faster than the rest of us! I can assure you that the traffic problems are not just at school times. I'm not quite sure why anyone would not want this problem resolved.
