Pavement Parking
- Paul Robinson (16th Aug 2009 - 22:58:12)

Can anyone tell me when it was decreed that the pavement area between SK Electronics and Mr Cook's Shoe Repairs was to be used as a car park?

At various times there are two or three vehicles parked fully on the pavement making pedestrian passage through them very difficult.

One vehicle stuffed full with cardboard and boxes never seems to move at all and may be being used as a shed for all I know.

Paul

I used to work for a guy, who once rented the flat above what is now S&K. He always used the space in front, and my understanding from him was that it was acceptable. There is no permitted parking for the flat at the rear.

Your best bet would be to contact the council.

According to Ian in SK the upstairs flat is allowed to use the pavement for parking when the shop is closed. SK customers can also use the pavement during their opening hours.

And talking of pavement parking - one of our neighbours who also happens to be a parish councillor parks the cars from his car rental business all over the pavement and road in front of his house making using the pavement impossible and making it very difficult for other car drivers to negotiate past them all.

For the record, the aformentioned vehicle never moves, even during S K shop hours. To do so would be difficult as all available space in the vehicle, including the driver's seat, is stuffed full of junk.

It should also be noted that the road fund licence is several months out of date and I think that would render the vehicle unroadworthy by law.

If this vehicle were left in a car park or a lay-by it would be towed away and scrapped. Why is it therefore tolerated on a pavement in the centre of the village?

Its very easy to get a vehical removed - if you feel it has been dumped etc. Just phone the EHDC and report it. They will do the necessary investigations - contact local residents etc, and if after a certain period - no one claims ownership - they will remove it. For something to happen - they have to know about it.

I am interested about your comments with regard to A3 cars
they seem to be everywhere (apart from where there is a charge) blocking up right of ways, I also find their nasty cheap signs erected everywhere offensive taking away the good work of LIB, does the counciller need planning for them can we ask EHDC to remove them as well as the cars.

I saw the 'cardboard box' car today. I wonder why I have never seen it before - must have driven past it hundreds of times!

Maybe they had good intentions about recycling and just got carried away.................

We too have a problem with cars parked along the stretch of road from the roundabout on Midhurst Road and Canada Way up to the corner of Quebec Close. These are cars avoiding the parking fee at the station but they are also causing a blockage which woul be a problem if the emergency services had to pass in a hurry.

I think it's time to mention it to the PC.

Perhaps they're waiting until after the general elections so they can claim their M&S vouchers ?? ;)

I was grown up and went to the parish council to complain about the said "shed" and they were going to contact the relevant authority. that was last friday, so feel free anyone to have your fourpenneth! If that was my vehicle there would be 4 squad cars around it! Why should this owner get away with it. Apart from anything else it is an eyesore and a blot on the square! And it masks the London Road sign on the electric board's fence. Why do people put up with it!

Note to self: "must open eyes wider (and turn them left and right) when travelling through Liphook".

Rather like asking my wife as I look in the fridge "where's the butter", and her replying "right there in front of your eyes, middle shelf" and me replying "ah got it - well you moved it, it was on the left last time"

and then me asking "where have you put my car keys" and her replying "they are probably next to the kettle where you left them" and me replying "ah yes - I am sure you moved them there"...

sound familiar ? or is it just me completely losing my marbles ? or maybe a bloke thing ?

anyway - I completely missed the "shed" and now feel cheated that I can't have the satisfaction of seeing the "shed" gone.

Have a great one all - see you at the Infant school fair where I will be trying to blag may way into santa's grotto (not sure if this counts as an "interesting" status update !!).

Cheers, Finchie
