Recreation play area
- JEREMY SHARMAN (14th Aug 2009 - 11:23:24)

Just spent 18 nights in St Jean-Du-Monts in France, place is spotless, young students getting paid to pick up all the waste, I would call it doing something useful.

Anyway, get back to good old England, Liphook, lived here for 18 years.

Take my 3 young children to play in the rec(play area)and yes the good local scum have wrecked it. But I feel sorry for them, they have nothing to do.

When I was a kid we only had a bike, football, and a big outside world to play with, but we did not abuse it, maybe because I used to get the cane and slipper at school, never did drugs, mugged old ladies, we respected things.

So my message to the local scum is, keep drinking the cheap booze from the local supermarket, keep taking the drugs, as much as possible, then maybe, you will do us all a favour, and snuff it!

Because you are not worth the air that nature gives you!

Cheers,JS

Was there on Tuesday and noticed some equipment was missing, back on Friday and now the roof to the climbing frame has gone.

Lots of railings being put up around the rec fields/football area - any spare £££s to replace the equipment??

A petition has been organised and I believe a presentation is being made to the PC on Monday to put forward the desperate need to replace all the equipment and bring the park in line with current health and safety standards. Visit the new park in Rogate and you will see an example of what a modern park should look like. Sadly, the obvious challenge lies in keeping the park in a safe state for our children to play in and something the village can be proud of.

Where can one sign the petition - is it online?
It would be great to see an improvement to the park given the amount of young children it services. Once again, the minority of yobs spoiling it for the rest...

I think there is a meeting of the recreation commitee this evening in the Haskell Centre 8PM that is the first port of call to address the councillor/Chairman on that commitee. I have seen the item for discussion on the agenda.

When you call the police to report vandalism or anti-social behaviour occuring on the recreation ground you get through to the police control in the Isle of Wight who tell you that someone will be there 'as soon as possible' (once they have figured out where Liphook is) .................... which usually means never, or at best a couple of days later. Our community policeman (the little dark haired one) is brilliant but is he just one person who unfortunately cannot work 24/7.

Hi All

In answer to Claire and her statement that the police control room is located on the Isle of Wight, may I point out that the control room and enquiry centre are in fact located in Netley which is situated between Portsmouth and Southampton, as can be ascertained by visiting the Hampshire Police website.

Over 2000 calls a day are received in the control room and an equally large number of calls are dealt with by the enquiry centre. Finite resources and the circumstances at the time of making a phone call to the police, dictate the level of response from the police.

The "little dark haired" officer is called PCSO (police community support officer) Peter Tedder. The police officer for Liphook and Greatham is PC Teresa Webster.

Whoever causes the damage in the Recreation Ground is, may I hazard a suggestion, the sons, daughters, brothers, sisters and the neighbours of villagers. Look within the community for the answer to the problem !.

yeah thats it, pass the buck again to liphook residents! After all the poor police are overworked chasing motorists they can't be everywhere, anyway it would mean them having to get out of their nice warm cars! to investigate.

I can understand the residents disgust at the damage that is caused to the play area in the Rec. I do a lot of work in this field and I can assure you all that it is not just Liphook that suffers from these vandals.

A lot of my work involves repairing or re-instating play area equipment. All play areas are obliged by law to be inspected on a (minimum) monthly basis. If anything does not conform to these standards, then they must either be repaired or removed.
Should any person be injured by the equipment, then the onus for recompense is on the local authority that maintain these areas.

I work all over the south of England repairing this sort of equipment and I can assure you all that it is not isolated to Liphook. Vandalism of play areas is rife throughout the country.

Kids play on the equipment provided until they become teenagers, then they like to destroy it. Why ? Because there is nothing else for them to do. At least, that is what I have been told by (Brazen) teenagers, who did not care what they had done and who they told about it. "We are too young to prosecute, So we do what we like"......

Unbelievable.........

in response to Mick - my point was , local police, based locally with local knowledge are most useful. I don't really care where call centre is situated, I would just love a policeman/woman to arrive within a reasonable time.

I have a friend who had an intruder in her integral garage ....the police told her to try and get a description as they had no officers available!! She resorted to saying she believed they were armed ..... hey presto - police arrived - intruder caught - result.

The fact that some of the anti-social behaviour may or may not be caused by local residents is not the issue , the issue is they should be caught and brought to justice. As a resident, I am not asking that the police do anything out of their remit - just assist to maintain law and order.

I think PC Tedder (thanks for his name) has shown what pro-active policing can achieve,I have seen him engage with so many people who a lot of us would cross the road to avoid. The instances of mis-use of the rec carpark by younger motorists has fallen dramatically. I hear he is moving on to the Met which is a great loss to the village.

Anyway - I just hope all the ankle biters get their new play equipment and i hope the vandals (wherever they hail from) leave it alone.

What has "having nothing to do" got to do with it? Why do we have to keep finding excuses for the excessive bad behaviour of these people which implies that blame lies with someone else or society in general? Listen up, it's their fault, they are to blame and so are their parents who, having spawned them, are now respsonsible for them.

There is plenty to do if you have the imagination to look for it. What differentiates the kids involved with this type of social crime and those who are not is the standard of their upbringing, no more no less, so look no further!

Re: Recreation play area

Chris,
I couldn't agree more with you. When I was a nipper (Many moons ago) I used the rec nearly every day. We played football, cricket, rounders, anything but destroy the place.

But as I have already said, it is not a local problem. This sort of thing goes on all over the country. Before we all start blaming the government for this sort of thing, lets try educating the parents first.

I worked on a play area recently in Essex and the parish clerk took it upon herself to address the youngsters. She did it in a friendly manner on their level. She managed to give them all a little job to do in looking after a certain piece of equipment. It worked really well as they felt responsible for their own pieces of play equipment.

Now I'm not saying that would work in Liphook.... But it might..
